London-based educational publishing firm Pearson has appointed Arden Hoffman as an independent non-executive director effective June 1st, 2025. Hoffman has held her current role as Chief People Officer at GM since 2023. Before her role at GM, Hoffman was the Chief People Officer of Cruise, the Global Head of Human Resources at Dropbox, and held senior HR positions at Google and Goldman Sachs.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Arden to the Pearson Board as we are evolving our business to meet transformational shifts in learning and in the workforce,” Pearson Chair Omid Kordestani said. “She brings an innate passion for the power learning can bring at an individual and societal level, as well as experience in leading high-performing teams in tech-driven businesses. Additionally, she complements the existing depth of experience on our Board, and her workforce and talent expertise will prove invaluable as Pearson continues to execute against its strategy.”
Based on Kordestani’s comments, Hoffman will likely advise Pearson’s enterprise learning business. In addition to producing materials for higher education and enterprise learning, Pearson offers English language learning, virtual learning, and assessments that allow users to demonstrate their skills and knowledge when transitioning from school to the workforce. Hoffman’s robust experience as a human resources executive makes her a good fit for the role.
“Pearson’s purpose of helping people to realize the life they imagine through learning is incredibly impactful and aligns with my own belief in the importance of empowering individuals through learning and growth,” Hoffman said. “I’m excited to help Pearson make further progress against its purpose and strategy through my experience leading talent management efforts in global organizations and in the application of workforce learning at scale.”
As an independent non-executive director, Hoffman won’t be closely involved in Pearson’s daily management. Instead, she’ll be in more of an advisory role, providing independent oversight and contributing to the publishing company’s mission of effective education.

If I was her, I’d be leaving GM right about now. The Recession Train is about to leave the station, albeit WAY overdue, and it won’t be a pretty thing. Especially for automakers, among others, like farmers. Automakers well deserve it.
They should have let the correction happen naturally a couple years ago instead of the big pump up.
What? A “Chief People Officer”? Now here’s a person who should have to tell us just what she did for gm last week as Musk is requiring of federal employees.
