The General’s commercial fleet-related GM Envolve business unit, which provides a wide range of services to fleet customers, has now had Ian Hucker appointed as its chief by the automaker, bringing a range of fleet and sales related experience to the position.
The previous Vice President of GM Envolve, Sandor Piszar, announced his retirement at the very start of 2025, leaving the business unit without an official successor to the post for a few months.
Ian Hucker’s portfolio of experience includes multiple stints as a sales executive at GM, serving in senior positions in the automaker’s marketing for the U.S., England, Germany, Europe in general, and Russia. Most recently, however, he worked for Hyundai Capital Europe as Chief Commercial Officer. Some of his previous positions with General Motors involved fleet related services as well.
Hucker, according to General Motors global commercial growth strategies and operations VP Duncan Aldred, has “expertise in strategy development and transformation” that “will help GM Envolve continue to grow and deliver value to our customers.” Aldred said that under Hucker’s leadership the business unit will continue to expand its “winning product portfolio, advanced telematics, and digital fleet management tools” for commercial customers.
Hucker comes to GM Envolve at a moment when the fleet services subsidiary is already thriving. During the first two months of 2025, Envolve’s sales surged 17 percent compared to the same period of 2024. Additionally, Envolve sales were already in first place among fleet services providers in the U.S. during calendar 2024. While the business unit serves both ICE and EV fleets, electrified commercial vehicle services are among its most successful offerings.
GM Envolve marketing and sales director Jennifer Costabile says that, as regards EVs, “the reaction to the vehicles is that it actually is a substantial cost saver over ICE variants.” She notes that, used as local delivery vehicles, EVs offer savings and efficiency because “there’s no idling, there’s no gas to fill up, and the small routes they did – even in cold weather – was not an issue.”
GM Envolve offers a range of services to fleet customers, including tracking fleet operations with OnStar Business Solutions, handling GMÂ HydroTec fuel cell technology and providing EV energy management, changing over to use of battery-electric vehicles from an ICE fleet, and far-ranging consultancy services.
