GM just revealed the Chevy Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept, a full-blown electric race truck built to tackle the grueling Mint 400 off-road race. According to GM, the Silverado EV ZR2 race truck is built using 98 percent production parts, making it a real-world test platform for refining the automaker’s off-road and performance EV technology. All of which leads us to ask – could a production Silverado EV ZR2 be on the way?
For those readers who may have missed it, the Chevy Silverado EV ZR2 concept is equipped with a tri-motor, all-electric propulsion system delivering a staggering 1,100 horsepower. GM also claims an eyebrow-raising 11,500 pound-feet of wheel torque. Realistically, actual driveline torque is likely around 1,200 pound-feet, which is still immense for an off-road pickup.
The off-road capability of the Silverado EV ZR2 concept is equally as impressive, with a quartet of 37-inch BFGoodrich KM3 Mud Terrain tires hitting the ground and a set of prototype Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve dampers in the corners, the latter of which provide more than 13 inches of wheel travel at both the front and rear. Additional off-road enhancements include locking differentials and extensive underbody skid protection to handle the extreme terrain.
While the Silverado EV ZR2 concept is currently a race-only prototype, GM has already confirmed plans for a new off-road-focused Silverado EV variant, specifically the Silverado EV Trail Boss. This new Silverado EV Trail Boss will feature a factory-installed lift, 18-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch all-terrain tires, red tow hooks, and a Terrain Mode for optimized off-road performance.
However, a production-spec Silverado EV ZR2 would take that formula to a whole new level, potentially offering even more suspension travel, more aggressive all-terrain components, and additional powertrain tuning for extreme off-road capability. So, what do you think? Should GM put the Silverado EV ZR2 into production? Let us know by voting in the poll below!

Still looks like a cartoon whale, you know that, right? Certainly not a candidate for “Tread Lightly” vehicle of the year.
I expect the “wahhh trucks are too big” from EV sites. Now here too?
There is an EV Discord that comes here to troll now.
Gotta keep up with BoyRacer Jimmy over at Ford. How absurd.
A lot of the improvements we see in our day to day vehicles come from what they learned from racing.
Not to mention that not EVERY vehicle on the road needs to look like it was designed by a 72 year old woman in a pant suit.
I’m more interested in what the “Recovery Vehicle” looks like to retrieve these when their batteries die…
Be smart enough not to run the batteries dry?
No 6.2?
