Chevy Silverado EV ZR2 Concept Successfully Completes Mint 400

The Chevy Silverado EV ZR2 concept has successfully competed in the Mint 400, completing a grueling 73-mile lap. GM unveiled the Chevy Silverado EV ZR2 concept earlier this week, showing off a race-ready all-electric off-roader designed as a test bed for The General’s performance technology development.

Behind the wheel was veteran racer Chad Hall of Chad Hall Racing, who piloted the Silverado EV ZR2 while supported by a team of Chevy engineers who analyzed its performance throughout the event.

The Silverado EV ZR2 competed in the EV Open Production Class, where it was the only entrant. The truck tackled one of the Limited courses, covering a 73-mile lap, rather than the full 400-mile, two-day event in which other classes competed.

While not the full-fat 400 miles, simply competing in the Mint 400 is an impressive achievement in and of itself, showcasing the truck’s off-road durability and providing GM with valuable data on how the all-electric platform handled extreme terrain. GM states that the Silverado EV ZR2 Concept was built using 98 percent production parts.

Speaking of parts, the Chevy Silverado EV ZR2 Concept is powered by a tri-motor all-electric propulsion system, delivering an estimated 1,100 horsepower and “11,500” pound-feet of torque, numbers similar to the GMC Hummer EV.

Additional off-road-ready components include:

  • 37-inch BF Goodrich KM3 Mud Terrain tires
  • Prototype Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve dampers with over 13 inches of front and rear wheel travel
  • Locking differentials
  • Underbody skid protection

Impressively, the Silverado EV ZR2 started the race with a full 100-percent battery charge and still had 40 percent charge remaining at the finish.

While GM has not confirmed plans for a production-spec Silverado EV ZR2, this concept’s participation in the Mint 400 suggests that such a thing could very well be in the works.

What is confirmed, however, is the Chevy Silverado EV Trail Boss, which will launch this summer for the 2026 model year. The Trail Boss will feature a factory-installed lift, 18-inch wheels with 35-inch all-terrain tires, red tow hooks, and a new Terrain Mode for enhanced off-road capability.
