General Motors has issued a Safety Recall for certain units of the 2017 Chevy Camaro, the 2018 Chevy Camaro, the 2017 Chevy Corvette and the 2018 Chevy Corvette for a manufacturing defect affecting power steering assist.
GM Safety Recall number N252497020 is based on an investigation that found 43 field complaints from Chevy Camaro and Chevy Corvette owners, though fortunately no known injuries or accidents have been caused to date.
The problem:Â affected Camaro and Corvette cars were built with a defective printed circuit board in the steering gear assembly which can cause the power steering assist feature to malfunction.
The hazards:Â the defective steering gear assembly circuit board may lose electrical connectivity. This will result in open circuits and loss of power steering. The power steering loss can sometimes be temporarily corrected by shutting off the vehicle and restarting it. However, affected Chevy Camaro and Chevy Corvette units can experience the problem repeatedly even if it temporarily stops.
When power steering is lost, the Camaro or Corvette reverts suddenly to manual steering. Steering is possible but requires considerable physical effort. The sudden change in steering response and the difficulty in steering, which is strongest at lower speeds, could potentially cause an accident or crash.
The fix:Â GM service personnel are instructed to replace the steering gear assembly containing the defective circuit board with a new, correctly manufactured Chevy Camaro or Chevy Corvette steering gear assembly. These new assemblies were built with properly functional circuit boards, removing the problem.
The fix is to be carried out free of charge on all affected vehicles. If repairs have already been carried out, reimbursement is likely to be available with proper documentation.
Affected components:Â steering gear assembly.
Affected vehicles:Â
- 2017 Chevy Camaro
- 2018 Chevy Camaro
- 2017 Chevy Corvette C7
- 2018 Chevy Corvette C7

- 2018 Cadillac ATS
- 2016 Cadillac CTS
- 2017 Cadillac CTS

Number of affected vehicles:Â using manufacturing records, GM has determined that 536 Chevy Camaro units and exactly 200 Chevy Corvette units are affected by this issue and recall. In addition, 94 Cadillac ATS units and 104 Cadillac CTS units are also involved in the recall. Across the four nameplates, 38 cars are recalled in Canada as well.
Owners should:Â wait for notification letters to arrive for GM, which will contain specific information on obtaining the repair under the safety recall. Dealer notification began on March 20th, 2025 and notification letters will be mailed to owners of affected Camaro and Corvette units starting on May 5th, 2025.

Next Generation small block in trucks 4valve head. Would be nice
While inventing and testing various failed and unnecessary technologies on customers, they forgot how to make basic power steering and reliable transmissions.
Gov. Motors is simply testing technology made to fail after the warranty. They just made a premature calculation.
