The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Argentina sales continued a positive trajectory with a dramatic triple-digit increase in February. The results represents Chevrolet’s third consecutive increase in the Argentine market and a notable improvement in volume that increases the brand’s competitiveness in the country that enabled Chevy to surpass Ford for the first time in a long time in the local market, moving up from seventh to sixth among Argentina’s best-selling brands.

Most models offered by Chevrolet in Argentina registered substantial double-, triple- and quadruple-digit increases in February, including the best-selling Chevy Tracker. The subcompact crossover, manufactured locally at the GM Alvear plant, saw sales nearly double on a year-over-year basis, consolidating itself as one of the most popular utility vehicles in its segment in Argentina. Meanwhile, the Chevy Montana registered the highest growth rate among all Chevy models, ranking as the brand’s fastest-growing nameplate in the country.

But it was the Chevy Onix was the brand’s best performer during month, adding the highest number of units on an annual basis. The Onix continues to improve its sales performance in Argentina thanks to the normalization of imports into the country compared to previous years, when the Onix was Chevy’s best-selling nameplate in the local market. This also applies to the Chevy S10, another model manufactured in Brazil. The midsize pickup continues to see improvements in sales volume, though it trails pickups manufactured in Argentina by a substantial margin.

  1. I’ll tell you why sales jumped. Milei. That’s why. He is a no nonsense leader receiving a country in currency disarray and he is turning it around. He told Argentinians it would initially hurt but things will turn for the better. This is the type of leader our country needs.

  3. Rather than exiting cars totally (except for the Corvette), Chevrolet should have brought the Onix here to the USA as well.
I also wonder if there would be a market here for that S-10 in addition to the Colorado. The Colorado has been under-utilized in the USA ever since it debuted, because we never got our RWD TrailBlazer built on that platform in the USA (as the other countries got) after the last RWD TrailBlazer ended in 2009. Thus, I continue to drive my 2008. I will NOT purchase a FWD crossover; I want only a truck-based RWD midsize SUV, with minimum V6 naturally-aspirated gas engine. (Tahoe is WAY to large/heavy for me.)

    1. Agreed, I’m retired and have a part time gig volunteering to help others in my neighborhood cut an trim the grass. I’ve always liked the Onyx and it fellow brother in sold down there called the Chevrolet Spin. My needs are modest, the Spin would make a great work related vehicle. Been looking for one of the used Chevrolet “City” van that was made by Nissan … all I find are worn out. The Spin’s base model sells for about $23K, more than I’d like to spend, but could justify. GM HAS GOT TO BUILD reliable an affordable vehicles like the Onyx an Spin in the US … if I could have just 2 minutes of GM Mary I’d try an make her understand she can Truck & SUV your way to profitability, Lee Iacocca in the 1980’s once said, you can have the best Dog Food in the world, but if the Dog don’t eat it you’ll go broke as a dog food business. In closing, I really like the Montana Truck sold there as well.
