The GMC Sierra EV is now in its second model year, adding another option in The General’s slowly-growing lineup of electric pickup trucks. With well over 700 pound-feet of torque, the GMC Multi-Pro Mid-Gate extending cargo length to 10 feet 10 inches, and other useful features, the question naturally comes up – can the Sierra EV carry a slide-on truck camper too?
The gasoline versions of the truck, including the GMC Sierra 1500 and the GMC Sierra HD, are capable of carrying a slide-on truck camper. However, in the case of the GMC Sierra EV, the straightforward answer is no, the electric truck cannot carry a truck camper.
The user manual of the GMC Sierra EV explicitly warns against trying to put a slide-on truck camper on the vehicle. The manual state directly that “the vehicle was neither designed nor intended to carry a slide-in camper.” What’s more, attempting to do so is likely to damage the Sierra EV. The resulting harm to the vehicle is not covered by its warranty, with owners needing to cover repairs out of pocket.
Notably, despite being described as a “supertruck,” the GMC Hummer EV Pickup is also incapable of carrying a slide-on camper. The same warnings about damage and lack of warranty coverage on related repairs apply in that case as well, according to documents from GM. This appears to be a capability that GM’s electric trucks currently lack in general, unlike their ICE counterparts.
By contrast, the user manuals for the Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD in their internal combustion form include full instructions for use of a slide-on camper. A glove box label is also included in these vehicles, providing data on how much the pickup can carry and any additional information needed for use of the camper.
As a reminder, motivation is supplied to the 2025 GMC Sierra EV by two powertrain configurations. These include Extended Range setup with its ~170 kWh 20-module pack (RPO code ETI) developing 645 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque, and the Max Range configuration equipping the 205 kWh 24-module battery pack (RPO code ETN) and providing 760 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque.
The GMC Sierra EV uses GM drive motor and GM battery tech for propulsion and is underpinned by the GM BT1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan with the GM Lake Orion plant in Michigan likely a future production site too.

These vehicles weight 9,000 pounds but you can damage them and void the warranty by carrying a slide in camper.
unless something has changed, there is a sticker in the glove box of every GM 1500 series truck. It clearly states this vehicle not Recommended for slide in campers
Did not know that
Actually, if you have a regular cab long bed you can. I looked at mine a few minutes ago. 2012 WT Silverado 1500, regular cab with 8 foot bed. The sticker in the glove box says slide in camper max weight is 1354 lbs. The door jamb sticker says max GVWR is 6400. The published curb weight is 4594 lbs so the math is max payload is 1806 lbs. Important issue is proper weight distribution of the camper load between the front and rear axles. The regular cab long bed gives you the best weight distribution. Four doors and shorter beds put too much weight on the tail and makes the truck unstable.
It is slide IN not slide on. Has been for 50 years
Still waiting for GM to offer V6 option in Acadia and Traverse.
Forget the Turbo 4 cylinder.
ok, got it. Why exactly ?
