The GM Authority Take

While Cadillac XT5 sales had been in the red for over a year as competitors continue to outperform with new and more attractive products, sales moved solidly into the green during Q4. Alas, the XT5 has seen very few updates since launching for the 2017 model year, and GM Authority has learned that the Cadillac XT5 will dropped after the 2025 model year, in spite of GM debuting an all-new 2025 Cadillac XT5 in China.

Meanwhile, Cadillac’s first-ever EV, the Cadillac Lyriq, is the all-electric replacement for the ICE-powered XT5. A high-performance Lyriq-V variant arrives for the 2026 model year.

About Cadillac XT5

The 2025 Cadillac XT5 drops the Platinum Package, a major optional upgrade previously offered for the 2024 model year. Also, for 2025, the Onyx and Onyx Lite Packages have been dropped from the entire XT5 lineup. Here’s the difference between the 2025 XT5 vs. the 2024 model.

Here are all the 2025 XT5 paint colors and interior colorways, along with available wheels.

As a reminder, the 2025 XT5 offers two powerplant options, including the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, rated at 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. Both are mated to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission, with front-wheel drive standard and all-wheel drive optional.

The 2025 XT5 can tow up to 3,500 pounds when equipped with the Smart Towing Package.

  1. Its crazy to think that a 10 year old outdated crossover outsells the new lyriq and gm execs just sit there and think “wow what a great product to cancel”

    1. Why? Its a great vehicle. I love mine. Fantastic road trip and weekend car. This should tell GM to start expecting limited market share if they alienate their customer base that isn’t ready to make the switch to electric.

      1. I believe the lyriq is a fantastic vehicle. I I just believe, that a better product strategy would be to offer two power trains for each vehicle. Similar to how engine choices. So a mild hybrid (not plug in) and a electric. I understand why Cadillac wanted to go all in. All the studies showed it was the future. But 5 years later, it is clear that at best a quarter of American vehicles will be electric by 2035.

        1. The Lyriq is nice too. I driven one given to me as a loaner for a day. A vast improvement regarding interior materials. I’m just not ready to deal with the inconviniences of electric for the price. The tech to me is not quite there yet.

  2. The Cadillac XT5 is a great SUV, I had 2 of them, both Premium Luxuries with the Platinum Package. I enjoyed both but decided to move up to the XT6 Platinum in 2024. The XT5 would be a consistent top seller if it were ADVERTISED. The current generation, which is only available in China, would be a SMASH HIT in the US, if it were available and if it were promoted properly. In my opinion, the combination of Cadillac’s “China First” strategy, its push to an “EV Only” portfolio, its disregard for traditional customers and its complete lack promotional knowledge and understanding of Advertising will put it out of business.

  4. People are buying it because as of today it will not be available in the 2026 model year. Caddy has their head up where the sun does not shine. Last Caddy I will own…Looks like Lincoln has a good idea with hybrid models to appease folks who don’t want EV only.

  5. I want to thank Mary and her incompetent others for Poor decisions. With all they’re ev products they are pushing on us buyers and no ice, they are excluding me from they’re lineup into non GM products.
