Cadillac Lyriq Surround Vision Recorder Never Made It To Production

When GM pulled the sheets on the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq back in 2022, the crossover was supposed to include a new feature called the Surround Vision Recorder, tagged with RPO code XVR. The Recorder was intended to be a standard feature equipped on the 2023 Lyriq.

The Cadillac Lyriq feature effectively mirrored the TeslaCam technology that has been available for years on Tesla vehicles. The recorder used the HD Surround Vision camera system (RPO code UXP) to save footage of the vehicle’s surroundings and store it on an SD media card.

Unfortunately for those who had anticipated making use of the feature, HD Surround Vision and Surround Vision Recorder were non-functional at launch in the first units delivered. Cadillac and GM claimed that the hardware for the systems was installed in the crossovers and an over-the-air software update would add actual functionality in the future.

However, following this announcement, Surround Vision Recorder then disappeared from the feature list of the Cadillac Lyriq, never to be seen again. It seemingly never made it to production. Meanwhile, HD Surround Vision did. It was optional on the Tech trim level of the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq as part of the Driver Assist Package (RPO code Y66) and standard on all other trims.

With the Tech trim deleted for 2025, HD Surround Vision is now standard across the board on the 2025 Cadillac Lyriq.

The Surround Vision Recorder technology didn’t vanish from the Cadillac lineup after its failure to appear on the Lyriq, however. It was introduced as a new standard feature on all trim levels of the 2023 Cadillac Escalade luxury SUV. It also appeared on the 2019 and 2020 model years of the Cadillac CT6, and has been available on the Cadillac XT6 crossover since its introduction for the 2020 model year.

The Surround Vision Recorder was also equipped on the Cadillac CT5 sedan for the 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 model years. However, it has been dropped from the 2025 Cadillac CT5.

The recorder isn’t offered at all, as either a standard or optional feature, on a number of Cadillac electric vehicle models, including the Cadillac Escalade IQ SUV as well as the two recently introduced electric crossovers, the Cadillac Optiq and the Cadillac Vistiq.

  1. Curious as to why this is an issue for them. Its not advanced tech, are they really not able to source a supplier or build in-house?

  2. It’s being replaced by the Connected Camera system and an OTA update should enable these features later this year.

  3. They haven’t figured out how to turn it off and on based on a subscription service yet! 😒

  4. This is not the only advertised feature that remains unfulfilled. Surround Vision Recording, Velocity Mode, Infotainment Themes, and NFC Entry are all missing from the 2024 Lyriq. The hardware is all there to support these; it just needs someone at GM to turn it on.
