A new Special Coverage bulletin from The General extends coverage for a defective transmission control valve – capable of causing wheel lock-up that could result in an accident or a crash – to affected units of the 2020 Cadillac CT4, the 2021 Cadillac CT4, the 2020 Cadillac CT5 and the 2021 Cadillac CT5.
GM Special Coverage Bulletin number N242480631 gives these Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac CT5 sedans 15 years or 150,000 miles of coverage for the free repair offered for the fix.
Parts are available for both model years of the Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac CT5 sedans involved in the recall. All of these vehicles are equipped with the GM Hydra-Matic 10-speed automatic transmission and are motivated by either the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY engine, the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B engine or the twin-turbo 3.0L V6 LGY engine. The GM 8-speed transmission paired with the turbo 2.0L LSY engine in CT4 units is unaffected and therefore not included in the remedy or the recall.
The General instructs service technicians to replace the control valve body assembly with a new part to complete the fix. Also required are 9 quarts of Dexron ULV transmission fluid and several seals. Components are available in low numbers and should not be ordered simply as shelf stock.
As previously described in Safety Recall number N242480630 the defective transmission control valve causing the problem is apparently made from too soft a metal. The valve wears out much faster than it should, first leading to harsh shifting and eventually to momentary wheel lock-up when the CT4 or CT5 shifts down from 8th to 7th gear. Locked wheels while moving at speed can cause an accident or crash.
A previous remedy consisted of reprogramming the Transmission Control Module software to detect accelerated wear roughly 10,000 miles prior to wheel lock-up. The software limits speed and makes the Cadillac CT4 or Cadillac CT5 incapable of shifting above 5th gear. The current fix can then be applied as described here.
Under the sheet metal skin the Cadillac CT4 and CT5 ride on the GM Alpha platform. Both sedan models roll off the assembly line at the GM Lansing Grand River Assembly plant in Michigan.

So when my 2022 Cadillac CT5 has this issue, I’ll have to pay out of pocket to have it fixed. I’m sure that GM fixed everything, starting with my model year. Yeah, right…..
Cheapest parts from lowest bidder with little quality control over all makes and models these days no matter how much you pay for new vehicles these days.
Don’t forget us CT6 owners are included in this recall.
Did GM engineers copy-and-paste this lousy valving into the entire corporate lineup??
GM, you could still have the gold standard with Allison (real Allison, not the branded ones) yet time and time and time again you gotta save a buck and give everyone things like this.
My 2023 CT5 is sitting at the Cadillac dealer right now here in Knoxville for this exact issue. Limp mode out on the interstate and limited to 5th gear, which at 3000 rpm gave me 45mph. Forget about it, had it towed. The valve body is back ordered with no eta in site. Where is my 150k warranty?
