Buick Encore GX Driver Cancels Left Turn, Gets Rear-Ended Instead: Video

Staying aware of your surroundings is critical when it comes to staying safe on the road. That means always checking your mirrors and blind spots, especially when merging or moving into other lanes. Unfortunately, the driver behind the wheel of the Buick Encore GX in the following dashcam video had to learn that lesson the hard way after an ill-timed lane change resulted in a nasty rear-end collision.

A dash cam video screenshot moments before a rear-end collision with a Buick Encore GX.

The accident was captured in a 30-second clip that was recently posted online, and appears to capture an incident that occurred on February 26th, 2025, around 9:27 p.m. local time.

In the video, we see a dark multi-lane highway, with two through lanes and a left-turn lane. Streetlights provide minimal illumination, and an overpass looms ahead.

At the beginning of the video, a white Buick Encore GX is seen in the left-turn lane, stopped at a red light. The dashcam vehicle approaches at a reported 65 mph, with no other cars nearby. Suddenly, the Buick activates its right turn signal and begins merging into the right lane – directly into the path of the dashcam-equipped vehicle.

Despite slamming on the brakes and laying into the horn, the dashcam driver is unable to avoid the impending crash. The video shows the front of the dashcam vehicle smashing into the rear of the Buick, shattering its right taillight and sending plastic and bumper fragments flying everywhere. The impact causes the Encore GX to swerve erratically before veering onto the shoulder.

Strangely, instead of stopping, the Buick driver continues down the shoulder for nearly 1,000 feet before eventually coming to a halt. Whether this was due to panic, distraction, or mechanical failure remains unclear.

According to the video uploader, police arrived within minutes and, after reviewing the footage, insurance found the driver in the Buick Encore GX to be at fault.

  2. I have driven in city traffic for 50 years with only a couple of fender benders. One thing I have learned is to drive as if everyone around you is crazy and unpredictable. Even though sometimes you may get honked at for going slow or seeming overly cautious it beats the alternative.

    1. Yup, I’m helping my 16 year old granddaughter learn to drive and that’s what I told her yesterday. The other cars don’t always do what they are supposed to so give yourself time and space to react.

  3. Seems like the cam car didn’t utilize the empty lane next to them to avoid the car.

    1. Agree it seems like a quick move to the right would have avoided the crash but I know it happens quickly.

    2. Moronic thought, that’s how you side swipe someone else, and then you would be at fault for not properly making sure the lane was clear. And a car went by shortly after so I don’t think it was so clear.
