For over a decade, General Motors has enjoyed incredible success with Triple Eight Race Engineering in the Australian Supercars Championship. That relationship, however, has recently come to an end as Triple Eight announced its move to Ford in 2026, leaving GM without a flagship team in the series next year. To add insult to injury, the Aussie powerhouse parted ways with its custom Holden Commodore, offloading it at a recent auction.
The 2018 Holden ZB Commodore was owned by Triple Eight since it was new, racking up 55,544 km (roughly 34,515 miles) during its time as a promotional vehicle for the team, according to a report from The Drive. The vehicle was registered in Queensland, Australia, and sold for $18,888 AUD ($11,724 USD) when the hammer fell – a fitting nod to its former owners.
While it was sold in its birthday suit – that is, a coat of factory Summit White paint – this Holden Commodore spent most of its life dressed up in the same livery as the Commodore race cars fielded by Triple Eight until the vehicle made its exit from Supercars in 2022. Even without the paint scheme, it’s still a head-turner, featuring a lowered suspension, custom Supercars inspired body kit, and a set of racing-inspired 20-inch wheels. Under the skin, though, it’s a plain old front-wheel-drive (FWD) Commodore, powered by the turbocharged 2.0L Ecotec LTG I4 engine mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
What’s more, Jamie Whincup, team principal and co-owner of Triple Eight, recently sold off his Holden Commodore race car, the very same machine that won the 2012 Bathurst 1000. It seems as though the team is scrubbing itself of all GM association before crosstown rival Ford takes the reins in 2026.
While the loss of Triple Eight is a devastating blow to GM in Supercars, the General is still committed to the series and is currently searching for a new flagship team. However, the automaker is hesitant to share its engine supplier with Ford next year.

Guess it was a no brainer for the team.
Mary should be let go for allowing Holden to disappear.
I think a woman runs GM racing in Australia! Apparently she’s no more competent than Mary is running the company.
Looks like my 2019 Regal Sport Back GS, which I love!!
