2027 Silverado Exhaust To Adopt Corvette C8-Inspired Tips, Ditching “HDMI Ports”

GM Authority readers have known since last year that the next-gen full-size GM trucks are on the way for the 2027 model year. More recently, we brought you the very first spy shots of the next-gen Silverado 1500, including of the exterior, production-spec lights, and our first glimpse of the interior. One of the more interesting details that can be gleaned from the spy shots is the 2027 Silverado exhaust tip treatment, which seems to be inspired by the Corvette C8.

Indeed, the superellipse-shaped tips seen on both 2027 Silverado prototypes spied thus far bear a striking resemblance to the ones used on some trims of the Corvette C8, including the C8 Stingray, international-market units of the C8 Z06, and the E-Ray.

A detailed photo showing the 2027 Silverado exhaust treatment.

A similar exhaust tip design has since made its way to other Chevy models, including the all-new 2024 Traverse and the refreshed 2025 Tahoe and 2025 Suburban. It’s worth noting, however, that while the appearance of the tips on the Traverse, Tahoe, and Suburban seems identical to that of the C8, engineers have told GM Authority that the actual hardware is notably different.

Regardless, these superellipse-shaped tips have been well received as much on the C8 as on the Traverse, Tahoe and ‘Burban, so completing the family look and bringing it to Chevy’s best-seller – the Silverado – seems like a good idea.

2019-2026 Silverado 1500 dual exhaust treatment colloquially named “HDMI ports”

By comparison, the current Silverado and Sierra are offered with a set of unique rectangularly-shaped dual exhaust finishers that have earned the nickname HDMI ports.

Also worth watching for is whether the 2027 Silverado exhaust tips will be the same across all trims, or if some models will feature a different finisher treatment. Currently, lower-end Silverados and Sierras feature a single-pipe side-exit setup, exiting behind the passenger-side rear wheel. We expect this config to carry over into the next-gen models.

  1. They should have owned it and gone full USB-C.

  3. When I buy one, likely in 2030-2032, it will be a light used LT so it’ll have the side pipe. Honestly, exhaust design doesn’t really sell it to me on a truck, however, what GM does need to do is make the car back upgrade standard on the high country, optional on the LTZ/RST from the factory and not a massive upcharge for the dealerships. There’s a good extra amount of power left on the table that is not worth the 3 grand stealerships request to install. It could cost 300$ as a factor option.

  4. They must not remember when they tried to market round-taillight FWD Impalas as “Corvette inspired!”.

Pathetic then and pathetic now. If they want to sell quad pipes as part of some premium appearance package, whatever go for it. Just remember a truck isn’t a Corvette, plus it really looks lame when you gotta advertise how you needed inspiration.

  5. “Inspired”??

    1. Dan – if the Impala was Corvette inspired, fine… but who ever said that the truck was “Corvette inspired”? No one said it. Not GM, not GM Authority, not Chevrolet.
I view the exhaust finisher commonality as a way to bring some familial resemblance to the Chevy portfolio. Nothing less, and certainly nothing more.

      1. It is in the title “Corvette C8 Inspired Tips”

Personally, no tips for me, hide them like the ZR2. Better departure angles, cheaper and looks better. These aren’t cars, function > form, and dumped/hidden pipes are more functional.

        1. You’re reading waaaay too much into it.

The tips are inspired by those on the C8. Not the whole truck itself.

By your logic, you should also complain that the software for the infotainment system in the C8 is generally the same as the one used in the 2022+ Silverado 1500. I just don’t see logic in the line of thinking.

As for the pipes: there is demand for tucked and for exposed. These are mass market products meant to serve broad tastes. Offering both is the way to go.

      2. I don’t remember the FWD Impala being advertised as “Corvette inspired”. But I DO remember Chevy making a big thing of the 1996 Impala SS package including a “Corvette LT1 V8 engine”. (Remember the LT1 made its debut in the Corvette in 1992(?).) And heck, that, along with those large reclining bucket seats and console-based shifter, were reason enough for me to order one!

        1. But here’s the statistics: 1995 SS 0-60 mph 7 seconds. Top end 140 mph. 2014-2000 Impala V6 0-60 mph 6 seconds Top end 149 mph. And the Impala is happy running on 87 octane, and gets about 30 mpg on the freeway. Nether car is fast by todays standards, but both are fast enough to have fun with, I own a 2017 Impala and am really happy with it, as it is roomy and well optioned for the price. I have driven the SS and it’s about as good as it gets for a 90s car. I live in Wisconsin and front wheel drive is needed in the winter here.

  6. I like my dual side port exit on my Corsa Sport exhaust. Its 2 tips that exit on rear right side of the truck. Looks sporty and sounds amazing. Now, with that exhaust GM better up its game with the 6th gen small block V8’s. We better see numbers close to 500HP for the small V8 and mid 500’s for bigger V8. with a Hybrid option and Supercharged option for a sport truck

  7. I liked the “HDMI” ports. But my standard side dump is best to stay clear of the spare and trailer hitch.

  8. This is American Greatness! Americans are bad at math. A 15 MPG truck is a best seller at almost $4/gallon. Credit card debt is exploding. My dad’s ‘77 Caprice got much better mileage. These things are just gewgaws on a pig of a vehicle.

    1. I inherited my dads 78 Caprice. Not fast but adiquite accelleration for a daily drive. Car was huge by todays standards but I still managed to get decent gas mileage. If I remember right I think about 20 mpg on the highway. I used it as my road warrior car and put over 150k on the clock and the only repair was a a/c compressor. Super dependable and great for long trips.

  9. Personally, I don’t care what the tips look like, so long as it is true dual exhaust and has that good throaty V8 rumble sound. In other words, the sound is much more important to me than the tips. (Recall GM spent quite a bit of development dollars tuning the factory exhaust for the 2004 Pontiac GTO (LS1) to mimic the exhaust sound of the 1965 GTO.)

  10. The best GM can do on the Silverado is talk about using a different exhaust tip? Talk about sinking to a new low. After all, it is not as though customized or aftermarket tips are a novel idea or a recent fad, I put a Borla on my ’93 1500 way back when and it had that style so people in the know probably recognized the truck as running the Borla. All of this for a pure cosmetic, why not just do a really cool exhaust? Come on GM…..
