2027 GMC Sierra Interior: Do We Spy A Sunglass Holder?

We’ll just come right out and say it: the fact that GM’s current-generation full-size pickup trucks don’t have a sunglass holder – or any other compartment dedicated to the storage of sunglasses, for that matter – is not an insignificant oversight. But that could very well change for the next generation trucks: spy photos of the next-gen, 2027 GMC Sierra interior (though it could very well be the Silverado, too), appear to show a space within the overhead console dedicated to the storage of sunglasses.

First and foremost, the overhead console seems to extend rearward a lot more than the one on the current GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado. As for the possible sunglass holder, it can be clearly seen at the back-most part of the overhead console in a recently-photographed prototype.

We also observe a horizontally-oriented decorative element on the back-most part of this piece, which could serve as a push-style release for the compartment. By comparison, the overhead console in the current Sierra and Silverado does not extend as far rearward as the one see on the prototype, with a substantial amount of “dead space” immediately after it.

If we are, in fact, looking at an overhead storage area for sunglasses, then its addition would address one of the biggest pet-peeves with the interiors of GM’s current trucks. After all, there is just so much space in these trucks to add useful storage solutions and comfort features.

In any event, is that a sunglass compartment in this 2027 GMC Sierra interior? Vote in the poll right below, and talk to us in the comments.

  1. Sure looks like a sunglass compartment to me. If it really is one, that’s excellent news… I really wish I had this feature in my Silverado (23 RST).

PS: this is why I come to GMA daily… you guys get the big stuff and the details

  2. I was shocked when I bought my 2019 HC and it didn’t have a sunglasses holder. Glad my 2018 Denali has it and it’s good to see it back in the new generation of trucks

  3. I have a ’23 Sierra and I keep my sunglasses in the upper glove box. My Oakley hard cases fit perfectly in there.

    1. Would be better and safer if you didn’t have to reach all the way across the wide a$$ cabin to access or stow your shades.

      1. True that. And that glove box is not very big

  6. If you put your sunglasses in those in Arizona or southwest Utah, they melt if you have a dark color vehicle. I can tell you firsthand. I don’t miss this feature.

    1. I live in South Florida and have never had this happen. The glasses get a bit hot, but I’ve never had my Ray Bans belt. Maybe it depends on the quality of the sunglasses… not sure.

  7. Who cares on the little things. When the engines and transmissions are pure junk. Oh wow atailgate that does tricks. Big deal. Work on the basics. Good engines without burning oil. I will never buy an LT engine or direct fuel injection. LS without DOD please. That’s all you need

    1. I’m with you, getting excited over a sunglass holder while other major issues are neglected.

  8. Why did they get rid of the sunglasses holder in the first place?

  9. Looks like a sunglass holder to me, but I think they should focus on things that are really important. Longevity, reliability and good internal parts where things are not breaking down or having recalls. I think better transmissions and better engines is more important than accessory nonsense. But the best internal parts in your transmissions and engines so they will last and people don’t have to put up with headaches. That’s what really needs to be done. That’s for all makes and models. Start engineering your own parts and stop outsourcing. No more cvts

  10. My 2007 Sierra 2500HD has one; sure looks like the one in the photo. Good to know as I am looking at a new ‘27 or so model. Hope they upgrade the color options though; would love to see that drift metallic that’s offered in the cadillac! Aside from the downpour metallic, the rest of Denali’s colors are downright boring; sad the red tintcoat isn’t an option on the ‘25 Denali 2500HD.

  11. GM pushing overpriced under powered so called trucks on us. If you want to tow 5000 pounds SAFELY you have to buy at minimum a 2500hd dmax for 75k. I use to do it with a colorado diesel that still had a 6 foot plus bed. Now they push 22 inch wheels oh boy more bling no work.

  12. Sun Glasses Holder … really GM ? How about you spend 10% of the effort wasted on things like this and fix your V-8 engine issues.

  13. Yup, I Iike the sunglass holder in our 2019 Equinox. We use it to hold the swipe card for our vacation park entrance gate. Waiting for the door to fail to stay in the closed position after using it so many times. Much like the upper glove box door latch on my 2007 SRX, which failed under warranty and again after warranty. You can only push on cheap plastic so many times before it fails. I agree though, GM needs to focus on Powertrain issues first. The trans on my 2018 Canyon failed at 21,000 miles. A lot of issues with this trans. No recall or compensation for this POS. Sorry, changed the subject, but had to vent.
