2027 Chevy Silverado Spied With Production-Spec Headlights

Earlier this month, we brought you the very first photos of the next-generation, 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 as it underwent testing. That prototype was equipped with placeholder headlights, which gave the truck a rather goofy appearance. Now, our spies have captured another prototype that’s equipped with what appears to be production-spec lighting.

Looking closely at the front end, we can clearly see a sliver of the LED at the very top of the fascia. This light will likely serve as both the Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) and the turn signal indicator/hazard light.

Below that, we see a part of the actual headlight. The projector beam that served as the placeholder headlight on the initial 2027 Chevy Silverado spy shots is gone, now replaced with a proper assembly and with production-spec design pieces. Lower on within the front fascia, we can see a set of fog lights and a radar sensor assembly.

Though the camo is obfuscating the overwhelming majority of the front fascia of this 2027 Chevy Silverado tester, it seems that the treatment is very similar – if not identical – to that seen in the refreshed 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban. Both of Chevy’s full-size SUVs adopted Chevy’s signature “high brow” headlight elements that were initially introduced with the 2019 Chevy Blazer.

In the case of the updated Tahoe and Suburban, they feature a horizontally-oriented LED at the hoodline, followed by a C-shaped LED bit below it. These two LEDs serve as the DRL and turn signal indicator. Meanwhile, the actual headlight is tucked neatly “inside” the C-shaped LED.

As GM Authority exclusively reported last year, GM’s next-generation full-size half-ton pickup trucks – the Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 – will ride on GM’s T1-2 architecture, an updated version of the T1 platform that underpins the current trucks. Product managers and engineers determined that the T1 platform is flexible enough to accommodate all the necessary changes and updates for the next-gen full-size trucks without requiring the creation of an all-new platform. Evolving the T1 platform will also enable GM to keep costs low and streamline development of the new full-sizers, per GM’s Winning with Simplicity strategic initiative.

The 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 will introduce GM’s sixth-generation Small Block engines, which will deliver better fuel economy. As we reported previously, GM President Mark Reuss stated the following during a recent Investor’s Day presentation: “Our next generation of full-size trucks coming soon will see a four to six [percent] efficiency improvement at launch over the mid-cycle enhancement of 2022, and this is 10 to 12 percent better efficiency-wise over the previous generation which debuted in 2019, so these are big efficiency improvements.” Though not confirmed by GM, we also expect improvements in power and torque.

Beyond these, we expect that the turbocharged L3B four-cylinder TurboMax engine and LZ0 3.0L turbodiesel Duramax to return for the next generation, while a plug-in hybrid variant should become available within the first two years of launch.

Inside, the 2027 Chevy Silverado will feature a large digital instrument panel (gauge cluster), as we reported earlier this week. It will likely be joined by a center infotainment screen below it. Beyond larger screens, we expect a series of improvements to the cabin – including various comfort and convenience features (including what looks to be an integrated sunglass holder).

As for the launch timeframe, we expect the 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 to launch toward the tail end of 2026 as 2027 model year vehicles, which would enable GM to beat the next-gen Ford F-150 to market, since the Ford was recently delayed by a model year.

We will have a lot more on the next-gen GM trucks very soon, so be sure to subscribe to GM Authority for the latest Silverado news, Chevy news, and 24/7 GM news.

  1. Looking forward to the new trucks, I have a 2022 ZR2 and I love the hell out of it. I’ve put 56k miles on it so far, no issues! Only dealt with 1 recall for some sort of thing having to do with the spare tire. I just really hope they put the shocks on the new ICE ZR2 that are on the EV ZR2 those things look beef AF. They’re Electronic, which normally I’m less of a fan of, however they I doubt there will be issues since GM has been using Mag Ride style shocks for over 20 years so I imagine the new Multimatic shocks would be good enough to keep rather than replace. I’m on a 37″ tire with a spacer lift and lots of trimming and the shocks are wonderful for a stock shock but I’m definitely changing to some longer travel Fox’s when I hit probably 100k miles. I hope they don’t screw up the new truck, I always felt the Colorado they cared way more about being off-road based from the beginning of the new truck where the 1500 seemed like an after thought honestly. So we’ll see!

    1. Aehhh, don’t touch the shocks! Multimatic 1000x better than fox. I’d even go with rancho over fox unless your doing a serious lift/off roading. Foxes are for hardcore sport use, but stiff as hell for daily driving. Multimatic does both flawlessly.

  3. Excited to see it… pleeeeeeease have a panoramic roof for once GM!

    1. My mechanic says he makes alot of money fixing Ford’s panoramic roofs. Yea they are Fords-but big pieces of glass shaking and vibrating down the roads are going to come with inherent problems…at no extra charge.

  4. I would like to see the LTZ-71 model. the only thing I would like to see GM do is offer an upgrade on the suspension to allow for 1100kgs of payload including passengers, fuel and payload, as opposed to the current 780kg’s. I had my 23-model upgraded by the GMSV approved upgrades and it works extremely well in my vehicle. can be a little too stiff on corrugated roads if you have no payload but apart from that it’s a really nice vehicle to own and drive. I like the technology been fitted, whilst it takes a little getting use to, it is a much safer vehicle for it.

  5. Will the frames still be low-tech wax coated??

    Reply
    1. yep, Don’t think GM is changing that any time soon. Someone knows somebody in the wax company that they are close to, i.e., family.

      1. No, they realize how well it has worked for DECADES. The wax tends to seep in to the metal over time and provide an added layer of protection. You don’t see many GM trucks since this came out with frame rust failures (yes you see plenty of older body rust problems), but if it ain’t broke…. Not sure why all the hate on it, it has worked and any that is scratched away is easy to touch up or provides lasting protection without it being touched up.

        1. Exactly.
Rust proofing from factory would add uneccessary costs to an already MORE expensive truck….and is of no benefit to us here in the Middle East.

    2. In my experience, wax coating hold up better than E-coating. I’m a Nissan Titan XD owner, got it for a steal as the horse hauler, farm truck still a GMT900 that won’t die. Guess which truck frame is holding up better? A decade newer Nissan has actual surface rust, while the wax coated frame is untouched, looks something awful! but untouched. The wax absorbs road dust, tar and grim and hardens to a cement that is as bulletproof as keval, and darn near impenetrable from the elements. Ford’s suffer significantly more frame rot than Chevys. Somethings don’t need to be changed.

  6. How about a few choices when it comes to interior colors?

    1. you can have any color as long as it is black

      1. They consider black cloth and black leather to be two different color options.

  7. Is that a sliding glass window similar to Ford’s design? Also same exact tailgate release as today’s truck. I’m curious if they will use more aluminum? I would love to see the new V8 be a 5.7 L 350….this would be a dream to market! Paint the engines Chevy orange and put 350 emblem in the grille! They could not make them fast enough!

  10. How about a two door trailboss with short bed and a v8 option.I have a 2024 reg cab with a 2.7 liter engine it has a lot of power but I just like the v8.

    1. You can get one new in Qatar. LT, RST and TB w/ V8.
      Starts at 150k-160k riyals.

Want a 2024 F 150 w/V8 and regular cab? Pay anywhere from 20k-30k riyals more.
I see less Ford regular cabs than Chevrolet/GMC regular cabs.

  11. I don’t care about sunglass holders or 6′ wide digital gauge panels, please just tell me they’re moving the shifter back to the column on the high end trims. It’s a truck, not a sports car and useable storage space in the console is a lot more important in a truck than a silly boy racer automatic shifter.

My 21 Sierra Denali is approaching 80,000 miles and I was considering ordering a 26 this summer, but I’d gladly wait till next year to replace it if they’re putting the shifter back on the column in the next version.

  12. How about more exterior color choices? The several shades of white, silver, charcoal, or black needs to end. Boring!
