2026 Chevy Equinox Doesn’t Offer A Trailering Package Yet

Despite offering a modest towing capacity, the 2026 Chevy Equinox crossover still doesn’t offer a trailering package to enable owners to take advantage of that capability – either as a factory-installed component or an LPO / dealer-installed option.

GM announced an LPO or dealer-installed trailer hitch, tagged with RPO code SDE, for the redesigned 2025 Chevy Equinox prior to its release.

However, the trailer hitch has been under constraint ever since the start of regular production (SORP) of the 2025 Equinox and, to our knowledge, has therefore never been actually available to customers. The original plan was to offer it for an additional $775. Had it actually become available, it would have been offered for both the LT and Activ trim levels.

Notably, the 2026 GMC Terrain crossover gets a Trailering Package (RPO code V92) plus a factory-installed trailer hitch equipped as standard on the AT4 and Denali trim levels. For this reason, we are expecting the same equipment to find its way onto the 2026 Chevy Equinox at some point during the model year.

Among other changes expected for the new model year, the 2026 Chevy Equinox will introduce a Drive Mode Selector (RPO code URC) to the LT trim. Formerly offered only on the RS and Activ trim levels, the selector enables scrolling easily through the Normal, Snow/Ice and Off-Road drive modes (the last present only in conjunction with AWD). Also new for 2026 is the Polar White Tricoat (color code G4J) exterior paint as a replacement for Iridescent Pearl Tricoat (color code G1W).

Pricing for the 2026 Equinox starts a base MSRP of $29,995 for the LT trim with FWD or $31,995 when equipped with AWD. The range-topping RS trim with all-wheel drive starts at $36,395. Already included in these prices is the $1,395 destination freight charge set for the model by GM.

Motivation is provided to the 2026 Chevy Equinox by the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD engine developing 175 horsepower. With FWD, the crossover is rated at 184 pound-feet and is equipped with the continuously variable automatic transmission. With AWD it offers 203 pound-feet and equips the GM eight-speed automatic.

The GM D2 platform provides structure to the model under the sheet metal. Production of the 2026 Equinox is currently scheduled to kick off on March 17th, 2025 at the GM San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico.

  1. Doesn’t offer because the “wimpy” 1.5L can’t handle the weight of the equinox, let alone a trailer. Bring back the 3.6L! Equinox’s and Terrain’s were little rockets when they had those engines. Could pull very well too. One of my best vehicles I’ve owned was a 2015 silver GMC Terrain SLT with black and Light gray leather interior.

  2. Why on earth would anyone trailer with this? Buy a Tahoe.

    1. Do you need a Tahoe to pull a small utility trailer with yard waste or a lawn mower on it?

  3. Yeah, when I read 175HP I was thinking it’s a throw back to 1975. I doubt this thing could pull much of anything up a hill.

  8. I bought my 2018 nox 2.L because it could tow 3,500 lbs. and fits in my garage easily. Its doesn’t need to tow far but should be able tow more than 1,500 lbs like most of Gms suvs. I do have a Colorado but I prefer to use whatever vehicle is available . Fords vehicles seem to tow better/more but we have to deal with the queen in charge not allowing 2 liter motors in our smaller suvs.

  10. If both GM and Ford can tell us a 1/2 ton can tow “up to” 13,000-14,000 lbs, it should be pure gold what they rate this for.

(This marketing # really needs to change. 30 mph up one side of the hill and white-knuckle brake fade down the other shouldn’t remotely qualify as “up to”. And God help if you get a crosswind or trailer sway…)
