2025 GMC Yukon Gets New Downpour Metallic Color: First Look

The 2025 GMC Yukon launched as a refreshed and updated model year of the full-size SUV of Big Red’s lineup, headlined by animated exterior lighting, truck-inspired aesthetics, available 24-inch wheel options, and plenty of updates to the interior and standard tech goodies.

Also new for the 2025 GMC Yukon are two exterior paint options, with the Downpour Metallic paint color as one of these hues. Along with Midnight Pine, it is an indirect replacement for three colors retired for the 2025 model.

Downpour Metallic

The color code GBD and the touch-up paint code WA-136HD are used to identify Downpour Metallic. The new paint is one of eight paint colors that buyers can choose from for the 2025 Yukon. The list below shows all the available exterior colors for the SUV (with color codes in parenthesis):

  • Onyx Black (GBA)
  • Sterling Metallic (GXD)
  • Summit White (GAZ)
  • Titanium Rush Metallic (G6M)
  • Volcanic Red Tintcoat (GNT)
  • White Frost Tricoat (G1W)
  • Downpour Metallic (GXP – new for 2025)
  • Midnight Pine (GBD – new for 2025)

A metallic, non-tintcoat color, Downpour Metallic is priced at $495 extra. Downpour Metallic can be optioned on the Elevation, Denali, and Denali Ultimate trims, but is unavailable on the AT4 and AT4 Ultimate trim levels. It can be ordered in combination with any of the interior colorways of the three trim levels noted, which include:

  • Jet Black, CoreTec / Perforated Leather
  • Dark Atmosphere / Gideon
  • Jet Black, Perforated Leather
  • Teak / Light Shale
  • Woodland Mahogany

The Elevation trim is the new entry-level trim for the 2025 GMC Yukon. Also added along with the refresh is AT4 Ultimate, which combines off-road competence with the luxurious features usual for Ultimate variants. The powerplant is upgraded to the L87 engine as standard, and also equipped as standard is the GM Super Cruise (RPO code UKL) semi-autonomous driver assist system. Among other safety, tech, and comfort features are a 15-inch multi-color head-up display (RPO code UV6) and massaging front seats (RPO codes AF6 and AKE).

The 40/20/40 split front bench seat (RPO code AZ3) that increased passenger capacity to nine occupants has been eliminated for 2025. New additions to the options include several appearance packages and wider availability of certain engines for specific trims. Pricing ranges from a starting MSRP of $68,895 for the Elevation trim with rear-wheel drive to $103,295 for the Denali Ultimate with four-wheel drive. The extended-length Yukon XL models cost $3,000 more. The SUV’s configurator is currently live on GMC’s site for trying out builds and ordering.

Three different engines can be cradled under the hood of the 2025 Yukon. These include the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine developing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the 6.2L V8 L87 providing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.

The refreshed sport-utility model rides on the same GM T1 platform as previously. Production started October 7th, 2024, with the Yukon rolling off the assembly line alongside the Chevy Tahoe, the Chevy Suburban and the Cadillac Escalade at the GM Arlington Assembly plant in Texas.

  1. But wait! We only have ordered enough paint for about 100 vehicles.

  2. Looks like every other color gm offers. Dark and boring 👎

    1. So a couple things.
      1. It’s a lot lighter than it looks in pictures ( I have the same color on my 24 terrain). In most lights it’s a medium blue grey but in others it can look greenish when the light hits the metallic flake correctly.
      2. I’m not a huge GM fan but what are you talking about they only make boring colors. They have a bunch of bright neon colors on their new models.
      3. It’s a paint color dude. GM puts out paint options they think people will like. If you don’t like a color don’t buy it, crazy I know. Just seems like everyone wants to find something to complain about.

  3. Is this supposed to be breaking news? I have seen a 2025 Yukon Denali in Downpour Metallic on a local dealer lot since last November. That color has been available since the configurator first went live for the 2025 Yukon. It’s a nice color but my preference is for Volcanic Red Tintcoat! Why is GMA recycling old news??
