Where Is The Chevy Silverado High Country Sport Edition?

The Chevy Silverado 1500 lineup includes a variety of styling options to cater to various buyer preferences. Among these is the Midnight Edition package, which upgrades the pickup with an all-black aesthetic via black badging, a black grille, black exhaust tips, and black wheels, among other blacked-out bits and pieces. The Midnight Edition package is currently offered on the Silverado High Country for $2,140, but requires selecting Black (paint code GBA) for the exterior and Jet Black (RPO code HXC) for the interior, leaving no room for customization in terms of color. Which raises an question – where’s the Silverado High Country Sport Edition?

Badging on the Chevy Silverado High Country.

As we’ve seen on the now-discontinued Chevy Malibu, the soon-to-be-discontinued ICE-powered Chevy Blazer, the all-electric Chevy Blazer EV, and the Chevy Traverse, Chevrolet has traditionally offered both a Midnight Edition package and a Sport Edition package. While both packages include a black finish for various trim and exterior bits, the Sport Edition package typically allows buyers to choose from a broader range of exterior paint colors and interior colorways beyond just black.

With that in mind, a new Silverado High Country Sport Edition package could provide a compelling alternative to the Midnight Edition package offered currently. In addition to the long list of blacked-out components available via the Midnight Edition Package, a new Silverado High Country Sport Edition package could also open up exterior paint options like Iridescent Pearl Tricoat (paint code G1W), Radiant Red Tintcoat (paint code GNT), or Slate Grey Metallic (paint code GNO), while offering alternative interior colorways as well, such as Jet Black/Nightshift Blue (RPO code H38) or Jet Black/Umber (RPO code HF0).

Check out the full Chevy Silverado High Country Midnight Edition package content below (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):

  • Black Silverado badging
  • Black trim level badging
  • Black hood badging
  • Black recovery hooks (V76)
  • Black exhaust tips
  • Dark headlamp bezels
  • Black bowties on steering wheel horn pad and front grille
  • Black grille
  • Black lower skid plate
  • Black mirror caps
  • Black door handles
  • Black body side moldings
  • Black DLO moldings
  • Black power-retractable assist steps (B3L)
  • 20-inch High gloss Black painted aluminum wheels (RD5)
  • 275/60R20 all-terrain tires (QAE)

At this point, we should also mention that GM offers a Midnight Edition package for the Chevy Silverado Custom Trail Boss ($1,385) and LT Trail Boss ($955), though these versions of the package include less content than the High Country’s Midnight Edition Package. The Custom Trail Boss is locked into a Jet Black interior (RPO code H0U), and while the LT Trail Boss has two interior colorway options, only Jet Black is available with the Midnight Edition package.

For Chevy Silverado buyers who want a monochrome look but without the fully blacked-out aesthetic, a High Country Sport Edition could scratch the itch. Do you agree? Would a Chevy Silverado High Country Sport Edition make sense? Vote in the poll below and let us know!

  1. Lipstick on a pig….Really need to focus on the quality of the bacon. Maybe badges, color tint, & $$$$$$ wheels are important to some/many, but good, reliable, & value packed products/solutions will keep GM afloat. The sharp left hand turn that GM is making will drive many to other alternatives. Remember core values.

  2. Need to work on their Engine problems with 5.3 and 6.2 and 10 speed trans before we worry about a “sport edition”.. Fix it right before we worry about lipstick.

    1. What engine problems? You mean the 1% that have failures that is inline with all other brands? Someone people sure take a few things read on the internet and try and make it truth to 50% of the vehicles… Lets not fear monger here ok?

      1. The 800,000+ potentially bad 6.2’s is more than 1%. GM is sitting on a real quality/engineering disaster they need to get on top of NOW. The pretty edition packages need to wait.

        1. Dan,
The key word in your statement is, “potentially.” Just because some of these engines were bad does not necessarily mean everyone they produced is bad. Let’s hope not. The important thing is to make it right by their customers, and then move on.

        I retired from Tonawanda Engine.
1% of engine failures out in the field would have been considered way too high.
Over the decades General Motors has constantly had trouble with the various forms of cylinder deactivation technology they have engineered. One of their first was the Cadillac, 4-6-8. A bad engine in an expensive car. Not that the price of the vehicle should matter.
Throughout the decades GM has stopped trying to use this technology, only to go back to it. I don’t think any other manufacturers have been very successful with this technology either. Maybe it’s time to stop trying to beat a dead horse. GM does have to make this right by its customers, with at least, giving them new replacement engines and free extended warranties.
        Endeavor to persevere.

Learn a hard lesson. Retire/move on/whatever. Next group comes in, doesn’t believe that old stuff and then learns the same hard lesson themselves. Wash rinse repeat.

Have seen it too many times in my own workplace.

    2. Toyota has recalled 102,000 of their new V6 in trucks and their LX. The engines are self destructing due sloppy manufacturing leaving machine shavings in the engines. This may just be the tip of ice berg.

  5. Make me sick to think of all the HP stuff that we have available to build a respectable SS truck and we are not using it. Anyone who thinks that the ICE is gone needs to rethink!!!! EV has a long way to go!!

  8. Both a high country and LTZ sport edition would be very welcomed option packages. Ford and Ram offer these in their higher trimmed options and there are a lot of them on the road. My last LTZ was “de-chromed”, I added RST bumpers and grill, this time around I went with a high country midnight as it was cheaper than modifying the LTZ. I would have preferred a white or gray over the black, though. A sport package offering some different interior colors and less wood grain would be nice to see as well.

  9. Instead of these useless murdered out black editions how about a proper SS version with an HO version of the 6.2 that doesn’t grenade in 4 miles. Today’s gM is so boring
