The GM Authority Take

GMC sales increased considerably in Q4 2023, with just one model in the red this time around.

The all-new GMC Canyon led in terms of percentage change, increasing a whopping 262 percent or 8,152 units. This is the result of the completion of the midsize pickup’s generational changeover.

The dated GMC Savana cargo and passenger van posted the second-highest percentage increase of 67 percent year-over-year. This, however, wasn’t enough to bring the model into the green for the complete 2024 calendar year.

The all-new GMC Acadia, now a bigger version of Big Red’s three-row crossover, poted 58 percent swell even it has begun its generational changeover, with sales for the year down.

The GMC Yukon full-size SUV family, comprised of the regular-length GMC Yukon and extended-length Yukon XL, posted the third-highest uptick of 49 percent or 9,388 units, as the refreshed models began to arrive in earnest at dealers.

Meanwhile, the next-generation GMC Terrain compact crossover was down 2.4 percent as the only GMC in the red this quarter. The Terrain has begun the transition to the all-new, next-generation model, which will be a slow rollout starting with the Elevation trim, followed later by AT4 and Denali.

The GMC Sierra full-size pickup line increased a healthy 18 percent or 14,425 units – the biggest unit change for Big Red during the quarter. The Sierra also remained the sales leader for GMC, accounting for the overwhelming majority, or 53 percent, of the brand’s sales volume.

The marque’s all-electric lineup includes the GMC Sierra EV moved 1,401 units, while the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and GMC Hummer EV SUV saw a cumulative 5,091 deliveries.
