President Trump has agreed to pause hefty tariffs on Mexican imports for one month following a last-minute deal that includes a commitment from Mexico to bolster security along its northern border. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced that 10,000 National Guard troops will be deployed to combat drug trafficking, in particular fentanyl smuggling into the U.S. Trump previously threatened to implement a 25 percent tariff on Mexican goods, starting this week.
Financial markets reacted negatively to the tariff announcements, with stocks falling before rebounding after the Mexico deal was confirmed. Economists and business leaders warn that the tariffs could lead to increased consumer prices, disrupted supply chains, and slowed economic growth.
Trump justified the tariffs as a measure to combat illegal drug trafficking and immigration, branding them as part of a “drug war,” rather than a trade war. However, he has also framed them as a way to rebalance trade and increase government revenue.
Meanwhile, negotiations between Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are ongoing in an effort to avoid similar tariffs on Canadian imports. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has threatened retaliatory tariffs on $155 billion in U.S. goods, with an initial $30 billion in tariffs taking effect immediately. The remainder will be implemented over the next three weeks, allowing businesses time to adjust. Trump dismissed Canada’s response, claiming that the U.S. economy does not rely on Canadian exports like cars, lumber, or agricultural products. He also linked the trade measures to broader efforts against illegal drugs.
President Trump has also threatened tariffs against China as a result of its role in making and selling fentanyl, per the White House.
The tariffs could have a major effect on automakers, including General Motors, which relies heavily on imports from Canada and Mexico and operates multiple production factories in both countries. Nevertheless, according to GM CFO Paul Jacobson, the automaker has “plans in place” and will “work proactively with the administration and with Congress on what we think are the right things to do,” per Automotive News.

What an unstable, clueless administration. This entire mess could have been avoided with some common sense. I’m sure it’ll just be put on the back burner indefinitely to safe face and an excuse like “negotiations continue”.
Amateur hour at the White House.
This person pays over MSRP for vehicles.
Wow, so original. And also…. we’ll all soon be if you want to pick up a car from Canada. What’s another 5k for a Trump support. MAGA!
What is unstable. He warned them and they did nothing until he was going to put the Tariffs in place. Its called calling their bluff and he did. He made Mexico cave so fast. This is how you show strength not just sitting their hoppening they would act. Biden would have just said Don’t.
The mental gymnastics never ceases to amaze me, he’s damaged relations, had retaliatory tariffs, caused US led business to panic, damaged the markets (although they did rebound once it was announced Trump came to his senses with Mexico)… nothing good happened because of this, and also, the Mexico “pause” is for 30 days only.
Common Sense – Trump came to his senses? Really? Man the TDS is strong with you.
lol you probably actually think the DC collision was Biden fault and DEI too. TDS is a term used when you have zero argument and can’t think of anything else. Shocked it’s all you could say. Shocked.
Common Sense – it’s gonna be a long four years for you cupcake. If he gets his way you will have another 4 years of Vance. Better pace yourself.
Oh honey, you guys have 2 years at most (betting the backlash will get pretty dicey as all the project 2025 stuff really ramps up), the house will assuredly flip, given how lousy dems did in exit polling, and it was *still* the slimmest house majority in a long time, better get it done now. That’s all the time you got.
You’re acting like it was some sort of blowout mandate. Trump got less than half a percent more than the popular vote. MAGAs inflated ego is almost as laughable as those mental gymnastics you guys get gold medals in to cope with how terrible your party has become
So you are the guy that stole the original common sense’s name, do you feel pretty good throwing left liberal views and name calling to try and upend the original poster? Sad, no creativity, no originality, and a political view that put the US in a weaken state the last four years. Good job!
I have no idea who you’re referring to. But if there was someone before this (hard to tell with such a lackluster comment system that has no login).
The rest of your nonsense rant about liberals need not apply to anything I say. Just because I think trump and crew are despicable individuals doesn’t make me a liberal. That’s probably too complex a thought for you to profess though.
Well the Canadian border is a joke. I personally have been to Canada and back and never saw customs. I was not even trying to avoid them.
Just a couple years ago a guy dresses as an Issis agent went to Canada and then boated into Cleveland got out of the boat and walked up the the Rock and Roll Hall of Fsme and not one person on either side said a word.
Just last year only 46 pounds of Fentanyl were confiscated. We can and should do better but to do so we need to help Canada remove the liberal jokes from office.
The fact all three of these countries need us more than we need them. We need to make better deals and fair deals.
kkkkkkkkkkkkkk this trump is nothing is making same as 8 … eight years ago…. nothing new… soon china gives him a feet on …. by xi xi ping.
The Dems are really wetting the bed! Funny
Surprise, surprise, its Trumps world now. Those who have been ripping us off ,including a lot of money taking congressmen and women, are either gone or either under investigation or soon will be. All i can say for GM is stop lying to your stockholders or pay a price.
