Twin-Turbo 1969 Chevy Chevelle Cradles Nelson Racing Engine: Video

Let’s be honest – engine output is totally insane these days. That’s doubly so when looking at the aftermarket, where four-figure horsepower numbers are quickly becoming the norm. This twin-turbo 1969 Chevy Chevelle restomod is one good example of that, showing off with 1,600 ponies thanks to a twin-turbocharged 427 cubic-inch Nelson Racing Engine.

A custom 1969 Chevy Chevelle does a burnout.

Once again coming to us from AutotopiaLA, this fully customized 1969 Chevy Chevelle is now on offer from Resto Mods Speed Shop in San Diego in a new giveaway. The car was originally purchased on Bring a Trailer and was already equipped with a host of premium components. The Resto Mods team made several updates to enhance its visual appeal and performance, including new forged two-piece wheels, updated lighting, grille adjustments, and subtle design tweaks like swapping out the SS badge for a more authentic blue Chevy bowtie.

That said, the real star of the show is under the hood, where we find this Chevelle running a twin-turbo Nelson Racing Engines-built 427. Peak output is rated at roughly 1,250 horsepower on pump gas and up to 1,600 horsepower on race gas.

Naturally, that sort of power necessitates complementary upgrades under the skin, and to that end, an Art Morrison chassis provides just the right bones while enabling for a low stance without clearance issues. Corvette-style suspension geometry and adjustable coilovers dial in the handling and ride. Further highlights include a built 4L80E automatic transmission paired with a Ford nine-inch rear end.

Moving inside, we find a blend of classic and modern touches, including leather-upholstered seats, custom gauges, a Momo steering wheel, and a modern stereo system with Apple CarPlay. Despite its high power, the car is still comfortable and practical enough for daily use, and comes complete with air conditioning and power windows.

Indeed, the video host describes the Chevelle as surprisingly easy to drive for a car with such extreme performance. The automatic transmission and refined suspension make it a comfortable cruiser, while the twin turbos unleash jaw-dropping power when you drop the hammer.
