New Chevy Spark EUV Could Enter Argentina Without Tariffs

General Motors has just officially announced the all-new Chevy Spark EUV in Argentina, where Chevrolet‘s new all-electric crossover could enter without tariffs.

The automaker’s South American subsidiary announced the arrival of the all-new Chevy Spark EUV to Argentina as one of the next product innovations that the company is preparing for the new calendar year in the country. As such, the Spark EUV is the second all-electric vehicle that GM has announced for the Argentine market after the local presentation of the 2025 Chevy Blazer EV, and could enter the South American country without paying import tariffs.

“The Spark EUV will arrive in the region in 2025 to bring technology and innovation to consumers looking for fun and sustainable alternatives, with the Chevrolet brand differential,” said President of GM South America, Santiago Chamorro. “It is the second electric vehicle that Chevrolet has announced for Argentina and one of the five new models that the brand will be launching this year in the Argentine market,” he added.

Notably, the all-new Chevy Spark EUV is the first vehicle announced by GM Argentina that could qualify for the new affordable electrified car segment recently created by the Argentine Government to encourage new-energy models in the country. The official decree published on January 30th, 2025 establishes a zero-percent import tariff for “alternative motorization” cars with a Free On Board (FOB) value of less than $16,000 USD.

Electrified vehicles (BEV, HEV, PHEV and FCEV) that meet these requirements can enter the country from the publication of the decree without paying customs duties (35 percent), forming part of a maximum quota of 50,000 units per year that will be distributed among all manufacturers present in the country. This tariff exemption could benefit the Chevy Spark EUV, whose equivalent Baojun Yep Plus has a FOB value of less than $15,000 USD in China.

The all-new Chevy Spark EUV will be officially launched in Argentina in the coming months and thanks to the new government measure, it could be one of the first electrified vehicles to enter the country without tariffs, where authorities are seeking to encourage the sale of more efficient, low-cost cars to renew the vehicle fleet. The company said that the Spark EUV will come in a unique configuration to meet market preferences.
