GM discontinued the Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV at the end of the 2023 calendar year, with production officially ending that December. However, The General later announced that it would develop a next-generation Bolt using the automaker’s latest battery technology. Now, it looks as though a prototype of the next-gen Chevy Bolt EV was just spotted out in the wild.
In a recent post to X, one user provides a brief video that captures a line of GM electric vehicles in a parking lot in Park City (presumably Utah). In the lineup, we see the Chevy Blazer EV, the Cadillac Lyriq, the Cadillac Vistiq, the GMC Hummer EV, the Chevy Equinox EV, the Cadillac Celestiq, the Cadillac Escalade IQ, the Chevy Silverado EV, and the GMC Sierra EV.
Curiously, while every single one of the GM EVs listed above are seen completely exposed, there’s one vehicle thrown into the mix with a heavy cover on it. A slim section of the lower bumper is seen just under the cover, showing the usual black-and-white camo of a GM prototype.
While it’s unclear what this covered prototype may be, it looks a little smaller than the Equinox EV. Which leads us to speculate, could this thing be the upcoming 2026 Chevy Bolt EV?

Look at the full spread of #GM #EVs. Everything from the #Celestiq to the #Hummer. My hunch is that this was a team of test engineers driving them. pic.twitter.com/NMdeqQeByi

Back in July of 2023, GM reversed course on plans to permanently shelve the Chevy Bolt EV nameplate, announcing that a next-gen model was in the works. Company CEO Mary Barra also stated that the “Bolt is something that has built up a lot of loyalty and equity.”
“I was getting letters from people who were mad at me for killing the Bolt,” Barra said.
While details surrounding the next-gen Bolt EV are obviously still under wraps, the next-gen Bolt EV is expected to be a bit bigger than the previous generation, and it will adopt Chevy’s latest EV-centric styling language, as seen on the Equinox EV and Blazer EV. The interior design will be overhauled as well, likely taking after the Equinox EV, while the semi-autonomous GM Super Cruise driver assist system is a strong possibility for the features list.
Under the body panels, the next-gen Bolt EV is expected to utilize GM’s drive motors and battery tech, the latter of which will leverage next-gen LFP chemistry and NACS charging. Vehicle pricing is expected to be close to the previous generation.

Looks too big
Cool, a picture of a big blanket.
A roomier Bolt EV would be greatly appreciated.
It’s Mary’s “Linus blanket”, because she doesn’t want to give hope.
That automobile COVER is a phenominal way to DETUR theft. Now if the other brands would follow suit; there would be LESS vandalisem!
Are you sure that isn’t a Buick “shark face” on the top photo? (Though the accent lights don’t appear to be Buick’s checkmark style.) But could it be the first Buick U.S. EV? Or a freshening of the Encore GX?
That’s what I was thinking.
I have two minds on this, looking at other posts about it. I agree it’s either a Bolt or perhaps another Cadillac, maybe a V Optiq?
Everyone here hates Mary – in any case, gm sure has to do a lot of decision reversal, goal adjustments, back tracking, etc…
Develop the Volt (a hybrid)
Abandon hybrids and skip to all electric
Develop Bolt
Back track all electric time lines and promise more hybrids
End Bolt
Revive Bolt
Where are the hybrids?
Cadillac stuck trying to survive with an ‘all electric’ new line up and aged ICE models.
Cancel Camaro
Promise a revived Camaro
Does anyone at gm have a plan that lasts longer than a week?
The new Hybrids have always been targeted for 2027

I thought gm was supposed to be totally electric by then. LOL
and Cadillac Escalade 6.2L V8 Engine Blows After Just 4 Miles .. which is supposed to be million mile engines ….
as since 10 years the trend, am sure it will be ugly
This is the Optiq V!
Where’s the rubber band? For sanity’s sake Ford must buy GM. Scary Mary has lost it.
