GM used the introduction of the 2025 Chevy Equinox EV to streamline the trim level walk from four to two trims, the LT and RS, along with debuting several other updates. Now, GM Authority is examining the electric crossover’s towing capacity.
Looking at the groundwork for towing performance – the 2025 Chevy Equinox EV propulsion system – the all-electric crossover comes in two configurations. One is a front-wheel-drive, single-motor setup that provides 220 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque.
The other 2025 Chevy Equinox EV drivetrain configuration is a dual-motor arrangement with one motor for the front axle and one for the rear axle, providing AWD. This setup offers a fairly robust output of 300 horsepower and 355 pound-feet of torque.
With these figures in mind, here is a table showing the towing capabilities of the various 2025 Chevy Equinox EV motor configurations and trim levels:
2025 Chevy Equinox EV Towing Capacities
Trim Level | Drivetrain | Single Motor | Dual Motor |
---|---|---|---|
Max Trailer Weight (lbs / kg) | Max Trailer Weight (lbs / kg) | ||
LT | FWD | 1,500 / 6801 | - |
LT | AWD | - | 1,500 / 6801 |
RS | FWD | 1,500 / 6801 | - |
RS | AWD | - | 1,500 / 6801 |
As can be seen from the table, the maximum towing capacity of the 2025 Chevy Equinox EV is 1,500 pounds (680 kilograms) of trailer weight regardless of whether the vehicle is a single- or dual-motor crossover.
Trailering provisions (RPO code V92) – featuring a 4-wire electrical harness and a 4-pin sealed connector – are included and only available with the LT’s $8,300 Convenience Package (RPO code ZL3) or $11,400 Convenience Package II (RPO code 6L5). However, they are equipped as standard on the RS trim level.
Meanwhile, the optional Trailering Package (LPO, PCK) is offered at an extra cost of $925 on both trim levels as an LPO or dealer-installed choice and includes:
- Trailer hitch (LPO, SDE)
- Trailer hitch closeout (LPO, VLG)
GM recommends the usual precautions and preparations be taken before using a newly purchased 2025 Chevy Equinox EV for towing. The vehicle should be driven for 500 miles without towing use in order to break it in and avoid any damage to its components or motors.
Once the Equinox EV is broken in, the owner should not go above 50 mph while towing for the first 500 miles. Additionally, full-throttle starts should be avoided while towing during this period.
As a general principle, GM recommends disabling some Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) tech during towing. The Chevy Equinox EV may detect the trailer and shut down some systems automatically. These ADAS features should be disabled if equipped:
- Park Assist
- Automatic Parking Assist
- Reverse Automatic Braking
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Rear Cross Traffic Braking
- Lane Change Alert
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Super Cruise (if equipped)
As a reminder, the Equinox EV is motivated a combination of GM batteries for power storage and GM electric motors for propulsion. Under the body panels, the crossover rides on the GM BEV3 platform. Production takes place at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico.

Can it tow scary Mary out of GM. I’d like to see that.
So GM is doing well, especially compared to others and you want someone else at the helm to run it into the ground? Sexist much?
Useless !
It’s not so much a question of how “little” this thing will tow, it’s whether it will make it 20 miles if something is attached to the trailer hitch. Why even bother ?
It has over 300 miles of range, towing reduces it around 30-40% at max capacity. A jetski or small utility trailer is all it will tow which is plenty for this class and it will still exceed 200 miles of range, plenty for around town or to an area lake…
If you’re planning on towing a trailer with any news SUV, GM or Chevy think twice about it, delighting pigtail will not work unless you buy a factory GM hitch then they will get a code for the mapping to make the pigtail hot but first you must wait until the hitch hits the market Which at this particular time they have no idea how long that may be long story short don’t buy GM or Chevy if you plan on towing a trailer they no longer offer the 3500 pound towing package 1500 max on all new 2025s and that’s if They ever put the hitch on the market. Otherwise you cannot get the code for the remapping for your trailer lights someone needs to clean their desk out and go home.
