GMC Sierra 1500, Sierra HD Recalled For Missing Emissions Control Label

Some 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 and 2025 GMC Sierra HD trucks are included in an emission recall voluntarily issued by General Motors, which refers to a problem in which the Vehicle Emissions Control Information (VECI) labels affixed to the pickups may be incorrect.

As a reminder, the recall – which carries Emission Recall number N242489790 – relates to emissions info on the VECI label only and is not a safety recall.

The problem: the VECI labels on affected 2025 GMC Sierra trucks may lack some of the emission information they are supposed to include.

The hazards: the necessary information about emissions that is supposed to be on the label may be missing or incorrect, making the Vehicle Emissions Control Information labels out of spec with standards.

The fix: both GMC Sierra 1500 and GMC Sierra HD units with the incorrect or incomplete label should have a new VECI label installed by dealership service. The original label should be fully removed before the new label is attached. The VIN of a truck included in the recall is required to order the new emissions label.

Affected components: vehicle emissions control information (VECI) label.

Affected vehicles:

  • 2025 GMC Sierra 1500
  • 2025 GMC Sierra HD
  • 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500
  • 2025 Chevy Silverado HD

Number of affected vehicles: while VINs for affected vehicles are known and both U.S. and Canadian vehicles are affected, a total of 95 units across the GMC Sierra  and Chevy Silverado pickup lines are affected by the recall in the United States, along with an unspecific number in Canada. Almost half of those are currently in dealer possession.

A GM spokesperson also provided the following statement:

“GM is voluntarily recalling certain 2025 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light- and heavy-duty pickups that may not have Vehicle Emissions Control Information labels including all required information. Dealers have the correct labels and are already applying them to vehicles in their possession.”

Owners should: owners of affected Sierra pickups will be notified by GM. Additionally, The General has placed a stop sale on affected trucks currently in dealership inventory, meaning they cannot be sold, delivered, used in demonstrations or traded to other dealerships until the correct VECI label is installed. Labels will be sent to dealerships of record.

Owners or dealers can contact GMC directly if they have further questions. The toll-free customer service number below can be used, with the recall number referenced as necessary to identify the issue:

  3. Nice to know the label information is to correct an oversight. For our information, the 2022 label in the driver door frame only lists four characters of the six require characters to match the factory metallic paint. Before we felt confident for an Auto Body Shop to begin their estimate repair, we asked our local Buick GMC Dealership using the V-I-N to look up the correct paint code. Ours is WA619D/GA0. Last character is zero.
