The 2025 GMC Savana van, a long-term standby of commercial and passenger van fleets, received a J.D. Power 2025 Canada ALG Residual Value Award as the vehicle in its category likely to keep the greatest amount of its MSRP after four years of use.
The GMC Savana was the top model for the Commercial Van segment in the 2025 Awards. Several other GMC models also took top marks in their own segments, including the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, GMC Hummer EV SUV and GMC Canyon.
The GMC Savana has been a consistent winner in the Residual Value Awards for Canadian vehicles for half a decade if the current win is included. It was one of four vehicles from GM picked as a winner in 2021, and continued to offer the highest level of residual value among commercial van models in 2022, 2023 and 2024 as well as the current year.
J.D. Power projects that the 2025 GMC Savana will keep the highest amount of its original MSRP over four years based on sophisticated analysis of many factors. These include the past performance of the model as well as its quality, features, and overall construction. Everything from mileage and reliability data to the overall economic situation is figured into the results.
The Awards’ information on the models with the best retention of residual value can be useful to both commercial interests and individual buyers. J.D. Power managing director of customer success Danny Battaglia notes that “top brands’ awareness and tactical approach to pricing trim levels and powertrains also helps raise residual performance and provides long-term value for shoppers that are buying in a competitive market.”
The analysis firm also stated that its awards are “a vital consideration for vehicle shoppers when assessing the total cost of ownership for a particular vehicle, whether the vehicle is financed, leased or purchased with cash.” In the case of the GMC Savana commercial customers will obviously also benefit from high residual values on their fleet of vans.
The awards process for the 2025 model year started out with 282 different model lines and used a rigorous selection process to narrow this down to 32 winners in an array of individual vehicle categories.

This is a good van. I bought one used several years old and then for 8 years it delivered wet products without rusting out nor giving up. Started every morning with no problems and when warmed started with no problems. Doors, windows, everything worked 6 days a week delivery. It was more reliable than anything I owned. Looking forward to buying my next one but only wish I had a diesel version. 4 piston one was just too small.
My 2010 Savana 3500 with the baby 4.8l V8 went 225K without major repairs. Two rear ends in one year killed it but the engine and tranny were still purring like the day it was made. I needed a van that can tow a decent amount – and this was the only one – and that was fine for me.
I immediately jumped into a 2023 with that nice big V8. I don’t need touch screens or fancy accessories (the last van had manual windows (!)), I need something I can rely on, that will get the job done – and that I enjoy driving (and I do enjoy driving these vans). I may be a dinosaur but I love these vans.
