The Sky Convertible Top (RPO SBD) has been an elusive option ever since the GMC Hummer EV was first announced. This feature wasn’t available to order when the Pickup and SUV first came out, finally arrived for the 2025 model year, and is now no longer available to order for the Hummer EV in either body configuration.
The Sky Convertible Top is a soft top for the front half of the cabin, in lieu of a hard top or the Infinity Roof with removable Sky Panels. It gives the Hummer a convertible soft top in the front and Sky Panels in the back, allowing the driver and front passenger to open and close part of the roof without removing any panels.
It’s unclear how many customers actually bought a Hummer EV with this option, but it’s seemingly rare. It never showed up in the configurators and we can’t find a single Hummer EV unit on a dealer lot that’s equipped with this feature. The Infinity Roof with opaque Sky Panels (RPO CF7) remains standard, while the Infinity Roof with transparent Sky Panels (RPO CC3) is a $1,495 option.
If we consider the GMC Hummer EV equipped with this feature a convertible, then it’s the first convertible from the GMC brand since the K5-based GMC Jimmy with a removable convertible top.
Other changes for the 2025 model year include the discontinuation of the 2 trim level that never actually reached production as well as the Omega Edition, the subtraction of four paint options, the addition of two new ones, and a new Dark Essentials Package (RPO PDB). Pricing starts at $98,845 for both the Pickup and SUV, and the SUV configurator and Pickup configurator are both live.
For motivation, the Hummer EV 2X trim equips a pair of GM drive motors, while the 3X trim is powered by three motors. Despite this difference, both trims of the SUV send power to their motors from the same 20-module battery pack utilizing GM battery technology. The Hummer EV Pickup in the 3X trim can be equipped with a 24-module battery, pushing its horsepower rating to 1,000.
For the 2025 model year, the GMC Hummer EV continues to use the GM BT1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.

If this had an ICE engine in it I’d care. Until then, I don’t.
What makes you think that others care whether you care or not?
Maybe Jim would just like to express his opinion do you have a problem with that?
It’s the same “opinion” posted on every article about every EV. It doesn’t add anything to the conversation
It doesn’t matter, because it’s way out of my price range!
GM has gotta be the absolute worse at offering cool features or accessories and then just deciding to drop them.
still have the targa tops. This feature is objectively pointless and extremely niche.
That top was a Disaster , POS , flapped in the wind while open and while closed ….. a total Piece of Crap …. went through 6 Of them before I screamed GIVE ME MY MONEY ! Back
Since it was never available, it’s weird to claim that you went through SIX of them
GM got it backwards. Keep the top, cancel the vehicle. 🙂
100x cooler than the Cyberdumpster
Darn it. It never fails. When my ship comes in, I am at the airport. My $3 billion dollar tax refund just hit my checking account today. I was going to get one for my spouse. Oh well. Settle for a G Wagon.
Hey Roy,be nice, lets get back to gas engines, electric is junk.
I think some peeps here need sensitivity training!
