Among other Big Red and GM vehicle models, the 2025 GMC Canyon is the recipient of an award in its category as the vehicle most likely to keep the highest level of its original value after four years, as part of the 2025 J.D. Power 2025 Canada ALG Residual Value Awards.
The 2025 GMC Canyon was the model in the Midsize Pickup category forecast to retain the biggest percentage of its MSRP according to the recently released study.
While the 2025 model year of the GMC Canyon has just arrived in dealerships, J.D. Power has the analysts and algorithms necessary to accurately predict its future value after four years of use. Data used includes GMC quality information, the performance of past Canyon model years, the available features, options, and trims, and even expected conditions.
The GMC Canyon also won the Residual Value award in Canada for the 2023 model year. However, for the 2024 model year, it was defeated by the 2024 Toyota Tacoma. While it performed well in the Canadian awards, it was overshadowed by other models in the U.S. for 2023.
Other Big Red brand vehicles that achieved first place in their segments include the GMC Hummer EV SUV, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and the GMC Savana cargo and passenger van. In all, 32 winners were chosen from all domestic and foreign brands sold in Canada for the 2025 model year, with 282 model lines in all.
J.D. Power observed that “manufacturer discipline and consistency leads to high residual values in Canada.” The firm’s customer success director Danny Battaglia said the winning brands “have shown they can strategically make select updates or redesigns to their vehicles while retaining elements that deliver strong residual value.”
Battaglia added that “these top brands’ awareness and tactical approach to pricing trim levels and powertrains also helps raise residual performance and provides long-term value for shoppers that are buying in a competitive market.”
