Chevy trucks are a dime a dozen, but there’s one up for auction on Bring a Trailer that’s not your average pickup. It’s a 2008 Chevy HHR SS wagon that’s been converted into a single cab pickup truck.
This Chevy HHR was converted into a pickup in 2010. It has a fixed window behind the front seats and, obviously, the rear seats and doors have been removed. In their place is a fabricated pickup bed with a swing-out tailgate, but it retains the pronounced wheel arches, taillights, and lower rear fascia of a stock Chevy HHR SS.
From the front (and only) seats, the interior isn’t much different than an original HHR SS. The main difference is a JVC head unit, which has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
There’s more going for this HHR SS than just the unique pickup body. It’s a low-mile example with only about 7,000 miles on the clock. It has a clean Carfax vehicle history report with no accidents in its past, and it was registered in Georgia from new until 2023 when it moved to South Carolina.
Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0L I4 LNF mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. It’s equipped with the available GM Performance Turbo Upgrade Kit, which brings the performance specs up to 290 horsepower and 315 pound-feet of torque. Other upgrades that came with the SS trim include a sport-tuned suspension system, four-wheel disc brakes, 18-inch alloy wheels, a sporty body kit, and generously bolstered two-tone seats.
This truck was acquired by the current owner via a Bring a Trailer auction in 2023. Back then, it sold for $28,000. The high bid as of this writing is $22,008, and the auction ends on Friday, February 28th. Get in your bids now if you’re interested in this pickup because it’s truly something unique in the world of Chevy trucks.
The Chevy HHR’s aesthetic isn’t to everyone’s taste, but this truck has us wishing GM would bring a compact, unibody, FWD (or AWD) pickup truck to the U.S. market to compete with the Ford Maverick, Hyundai Santa Cruz, and, potentially, an upcoming Ram Rampage.

That is so cool! ‘Loved my ’09 HHR and always lusted for an SS. This pickup conversion is like a low-budget SS-R!
I wonder how successful would it be if GM started selling a retro-styled small pickup truck similar to this modified HHR? It could be interesting. There will likely be strong sales due to the initial hype, but it could fade as the novelty wears off.
I bought a 2008 HHR SS new, with a manual transmission it was a blast to drive. The stick shift had 260 HP and sport suspension made it a sleeper! The pickup version reminds me of an El Camino, I still can’t believe GM never rebadged the cancelled 2009 Pontiac G8 ST for GMC or Chevy, into a modern day El Camino.
GM could have created a truck like this as the second generation Chevrolet SSR, given that both the HHR and SSR are based on the same generation of Chevrolet trucks/SUVs from the late 1940s to early 1950s.
Would hate to put a timing belt and water pump on that little fellow.
