The Corvette Racing team is heading into the 2025 Qatar 1812 Km with confidence, fresh off a successful Prologue test at the 3.37-mile, 16-turn Lusail International Circuit on February 22nd.
TF Sport participated in the test with its two Corvette Z06 GT3.R race cars and six fulltime drivers, laying down a total of 602 laps – or roughly 2,028.74 miles – during the session. The organization topped the charts in the LM GT3 timesheets, headed by Johnny Edgar, a fresh face in the Corvette Racing stable. He pulled off the fifth-fastest time in a field of 54 LM GT3 drivers, clocked at 1:55.132 at 105.428 mph in the No. 33 Vette.
“I’ve been enjoying things so far. Everyone seems pretty happy with the car,” Edgar said in a press release. “It’s enjoyable working with TF Sport again. Most of the people I’ve already known but I’m also getting used to working with some of the new people. [Fellow Corvette Racing drivers] Ben [Keating] and Dani [Juncadella] I’ve gotten to know more over the last few days and it’s been nice working with them. They’re obviously both very quick. It’s mine and Ben’s first time here so it took us both a little bit to get used to the track but I feel we’re both very comfortable at the end, the car was nice to drive and the days went smoothly.”
In TF Sport’s other Vette, Charlie Eastwood was pretty quick himself. He posted a best lap of 1:55.174 at 105.210 mph in the final session. Not enough to dethrone Edgar, but quick enough to turn heads during the test session as the 11th fastest LM GT3 driver in the No. 81 Corvette Z06 GT3.R.
“There is close to no comparison to where we were a year ago. Everyone is in a much better place… with the continuity between us as drivers, we know what we need to do,” Eastwood said.
As a reminder, the Corvette Z06 GT3.R made its competition debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Qatar last year, making the track hallowed ground for The Bow Tie Brand. This year’s race is scheduled for Friday, February 28th, and the green flag will drop at 6 a.m. EST.
