Chevy Silverado Driver Miraculously Survives Crash With Semi-Trailer: Video

A viral video circulating on social media shows a terrifying highway accident involving a Chevy Silverado 1500 and a semi truck ending with the 18-wheeler on its side and the Silverado pinned underneath. Miraculously, the driver of the Silverado was rescued and in stable condition at the time of the incident.

The dashcam video showing the accident shows the Chevy Silverado at cruising speed in a lane to the left of the semi. It swerved to avoid a bumper sitting in the middle of the highway, but the direction and the timing of the swerve resulted in the accident. The Silverado hit the side of the trailer at a high speed, and the momentum of the impact was great enough to send the 18-wheeler sliding across the interstate.

The semi-trailer rolled flat on its side, and the cab tilted to its right without rolling over completely. The Silverado was trapped underneath, and it didn’t look good for the driver or passengers in the Chevy truck at first glance. However, according to the YouTube video below shot by a tow truck driver who arrived on the scene, the Silverado driver was extracted by a fire rescue crew and was in stable condition.

The tow truck driver shooting the video takes a closer look at the damage to the Silverado after it was hacked up by the fire department for the rescue. The whole driver side of the cab was removed from the truck, including the front and rear doors and the entire A pillar and B pillar. Also, the entire driver seat back was removed, likely to make it easier to safely extract the driver.

The video footage shows that the edge of the semi-trailer landed right on top of the Chevy’s steering wheel. If it landed another foot into the cab, it could’ve been a very different story. Apparently, the driver was alone in the Silverado and had no passengers.

These videos are good reminders of the serious safety hazard created by debris on highways. Next time you see something large, like a bumper, lying on the highway, consider contacting the police to have it removed and keep the highways a little safer.

  2. Looks like trailer “fell” on the Chevy instead of the Chevy driving into front edge of the trailer.

  3. Stuff like this is another reason why I avoid the interstate as much as possible. Yea, that means I have to drive on a 2 lane highway, but at least there are very few semi’s on those. Mostly local semi’s delivering local loads. Ever notice on the reports of multi vehicle pileups on the interstates in winter weather involves numerous semi’s? The idiots are driving way too fast for the road conditions, but they just keep on tooling down the road like it was dry pavement.

  4. Sometimes it’s better to just run over what ever is in front of you instead of swerving to avoid. This was obviously one of those times. Driver could have easily been killed. Lucky.

  5. Always something.
If he had been paying attention he wouldn’t have had to swerve the last second.

  6. These trucks have very good crash safety.
Why? I remember seeing a sedan hit a truck (granted it was not real) and it was NOT good. Had they been in an Escalade, they might have had a better chance of survival….but of course, not everyone can afford these trucks or SUVs.

Trade off that you might be forced to make based on money availability…
