Modern pickup trucks like the Chevy Silverado offer a balance of rugged capability and advanced technology, integrating premium features that can enhance utility and convenience. One such feature is the Silverado camera washer, a system designed to keep the onboard camera clean to provide the driver with optimal visibility. Notably, the camera washer feature is available for both the Chevy Silverado 1500 and Chevy Silverado HD, and was originally introduced in Cadillac’s luxury lineup, including models like the CT6 and XT5.
For those who may be unfamiliar, the Silverado camera washer activates in conjunction with the windshield washer, ensuring that the camera lens remains free of dirt, mud, and road grime. This is particularly useful for drivers who frequently travel through snowy, muddy, or off-road environments, where debris can easily obscure the camera’s view.
The Silverado camera washer feature was first introduced to the Silverado lineup as part of the most recent round of model refreshes. The refreshed 2022 (2022.5 model year) Silverado 1500 was the first to receive it, followed by the 2024 Silverado HD.
For 2025, the Surround View Camera System, which includes the camera washer function, is widely available across Silverado models, though with some limitations. The system is standard on the High Country and ZR2 trims, and available on LT, LTZ, and RST trims, but only when equipped with the optional Safety Package (RPO code PQB). The system is not available on Work Truck (WT), Custom, or Custom Trail Boss trims, nor is it available for Regular Cab models.
For the Silverado HD, the system is offered with similar availability, with the High Country trim equipping it as standard, and other trims requiring an optional package.

While Cadillac originally pioneered the camera washer for its luxury models, pickups like the Chevy Silverado may actually be the best application for this technology. After all, pickup truck owners are far more likely to drive through muddy trails, construction sites, and rugged terrain, all of which can quickly obscure onboard cameras. In that sense, the feature’s integration into the Silverado lineup feels more like a necessity, than a luxury.

Had this on my 2017,2020 Cadillac XT5’s and now my 2025 Blazer. This is extremely useful not only for driving in mud, but also normal driving on winter roads in northern states. It is not as unique as the article title states.
How hard is it to just wipe off the camera lens every time one exited the vehicle? I’ve gotten into this habit.
have you not ever driven in sloppy snowy roads a day after the roads are salted and the vehicle in front of you is making your windshield dirty, along with front camera.? I imagine not.
Does the system have a little wiper that squeegees the camera lens after it’s been squirted? Also, does it wash off all the camera lenses or just the front one?
Wind is your squeegee
