Chevy Silverado 1500, Silverado HD Recalled For Missing Emissions Control Label

GM has issued an emission recall for certain units of the 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2025 Chevy Silverado HD pickup trucks that were potentially produced with incorrect Vehicle Emissions Control Information (VECI) labels attached.

Notably, the voluntary recall by GM, Emission Recall N242489790, is not a safety or safety-related recall but is purely about incorrect emissions information on the label.

The problem: 2025 Chevy Silverado trucks affected by this problem were produced with VECI labels that may not include all of the emissions information required by law.

The hazards: vehicles with incorrect Vehicle Emissions Control Information labels may be out of compliance with the required emissions information to be included on the label.

The fix: dealership service technicians are instructed to attach a correct emissions label to affected Chevy Silverado 1500 and Chevy Silverado HD units. The new label should not be attached over the existing label, but the original VECI label should be entirely removed first. Labels can be ordered only with the VIN of a vehicle known to be affected by the issue.

Affected components: vehicle emissions control information (VECI) label.

Affected vehicles:

Number of affected vehicles: a total of 95 units across the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra lines are affected by the recall in the United States, along with an unspecified number of units in Canada. Nearly half of those are currently in dealer possession.

A GM spokesperson also provided the following statement:

“GM is voluntarily recalling certain 2025 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light- and heavy-duty pickups that may not have Vehicle Emissions Control Information labels including all required information. Dealers have the correct labels and are already applying them to vehicles in their possession.”

Owners should: GM will notify owners of affected pickups and will also send labels to dealerships that are known to have affected Silverado trucks in their inventory. A hold is in place on Silverado units with the issue, and these cannot be sold, demonstrated, traded or delivered by the dealership where they are currently in inventory until the new emissions label is correctly installed. Visit my.gm.com/recalls and enter the vehicle’s VIN to see open recalls or other quality issues.
