Chevy Blazer EV SS To Pace 67th Daytona 500

The 2025 Chevy Blazer EV SS will pace the 67th Daytona 500, which will be held at the Daytona International Speedway this Sunday. The pace car is finished in Riptide Blue Metallic (GJV) paint with a Black roof (41T) with a unique livery commemorating the race. The logo for the Daytona 500 is on the front doors, large “SS” decals are on the rear doors, and a black stripe is draped over the top of the crossover with “Blazer SS” markings on the hood.

“Chevrolet has a long history with racing – it’s in our DNA – and the Blazer EV SS is a testament to that,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “We’re excited for customers to watch the Blazer EV SS – the quickest SS we’ve ever produced – pace such an iconic race this weekend.”

The livery and embedded strobe lighting are the only modifications to the 2025 Chevy Blazer EV SS pace car. Other than those details, it’s a stock Blazer EV SS. Chevy recently upgraded the output of this high-performance electric crossover to 615 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque when in Wide Open Watts (WOW) mode. Those are the same power and torque ratings as the upcoming Cadillac Lyriq-V. Chevy claims a 0-60 mph time of just 3.4 seconds, an all-time record for a production Chevy model with the SS moniker.

“We’re honored to have Chevrolet as a founding partner of Daytona International Speedway, and that the iconic brand chose to feature the all-new Blazer EV SS at the Daytona 500,” said DIS track president Frank Kelleher. “The Blazer EV SS is surely going to set the pace for another exciting race.”

Chevy Blazer EV.R Prototype

In addition to the Blazer EV SS pacing the Daytona 500, Chevy will debut the Blazer EV.R NASCAR prototype ahead of the race. The electric racecar was developed “with the intent of exploring new and emerging automotive technologies.”

As for the production version of the 2025 Chevy Blazer EV SS, the configurator is live now, and pricing starts at $61,995. Like all Blazer EV variants, the SS model rides on the GM BEV3 platform. GM Ultium batteries provide juice to a set of GM Ultium Drive motors. Production takes place at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico.

  • BAHAHAHHAHAHAHA.

EV regular traffic is going to be the pace car, they need to fire all the bean counter my lord.

    Bring the Camaro v8 back.

  • "I'm excited to see the Blazer EV SS pace the legendary Daytona 500!", said no NASCAR fan, EVER! No NASCAR fan will become aroused by a battery-powered SUV that is built in Mexico. Sorry. But I'll have some of what Scott Bell is smoking, it must be the premium stuff that Miss Mary hands out at Executive Management meetings!

    • Luckily, GM doesn't make decisions to please old dudes stuck in their teenage fantasies. It isn't the 1960s anymore. The world has long since moved on from 4 barrel carbs.

      • I will get impressed with the EV thing when GM will retire my house and install a charging station at no charge when I purchase it. Also, the EV has to be priced no higher than the ICE counterpart, with a battery pack that is guaranteed for at least 25 years. And built in AMERICA by real AMERICANS!! Current EVs are overpriced throw away cars. Nice concept, but still a novelty. Also, currently the only EV I would consider is a Tesla.

  • Oh boy. Don't get too many yellow flags now. They'll have to have two one on standby with a full battery. I guess this is where the savings in gas and maintenance goes to.

  • All the idiots here complaining about range of an EV thinking the Blazer wouldn't be able to do any laps.... wow blindly not understanding how this job is completely possible and easy to do for EVs. Low and consistent speeds like this would make it do more than double the range it's advertised for.

  • Yeh, they’ll be a lot of potential EV buyers in the crowd for sure. What’s that old racing saying, loose on Sunday, loose even more on Monday.

    • Hey, hey! Don't rat on my Express! In the current GM lineup, it is about the ONLY new vehicle I would buy (and then send to a van conversion company) today! Roomy, large (6.6L) naturally-aspirated V8 400hp power, solid 8-speed automatic (who needs 10 speeds with a V8??), RWD.... and.... REAL gauges and radio, and knobs, dials & buttons (instead of computer displays and virtual buttons/sliders) to control things with! Old-school technology is mature, reliable, and WORKS! Pity this is the ONLY GM vehicle (I am aware of) that retains it!

      • Wasn't ratting on the Express. Any crossover used as a pace car is out of place. Figured if GM is ignorant enough to use an EV Blazer CUV, perhaps they could use a vehicle even more out of place at a race track.

        • Okay, I forgive you! :-)
Chevrolet's only 2 passenger cars remaining for 2025 are the Malibu and the Corvette. Not like years ago when there were many vehicles to choose from. If they want to do pace cars, it'll have to be one of those two... perhaps next year the Corvette ZR1?? I'd still like to know how Chevrolet is allowed to race a Camaro-type body in NASCAR.... I thought the NASCAR rules were that the manufacturer has to retail sell a minimum number of the body style in order to compete. Remember that's how we were able to buy the Monte Carlo SS Aero Coupe and the Pontiac 2+2 back in the mid-1980's.

          • Not 100% sure, but think I saw something several months ago, about the Camaro was in production when the name was used in application to nascar, & that going forward, the cars themselves bodywork cannot be changed.

  • I truly like the styling of this new SS, BUT it needed to be an ICE with the twin turbo 3.6L, then I'd get rid of my Traverse Redline for it.....this EV, no thanks.

  • TNT:
The U.S. market is begging for high performance ICE CUVs, and there's none out there to speak of. Not having any at all is just enough alone to show Mary the door. Somebody get me a chill pill already!

    • @ Robert
I couldn't agree more with you, but when Ol Mary was in bed with the last administration and taking kickbacks from them and China, I see why she wants to push EV's. Need to get her out ASAP!

Make GM Great Again!! Get some new non-corrupted fresh blood in GM and bring back the performance, curb appeal, and excitement they use to have.

        • Until you want to stop or turn. Or recharge. Or an Ultium cell dies. Most EVs fall flat on the top end as well. Hell, even Randy Pobst couldn't get a Tesla Plaid up pikes peak without crashing.

    • "High performance crossovers"? Really??
Crossover buyers are yesterday's minivan buyers (who simply reject the name "minivan"... actually minivans are a WHOLE lot more versatile than crossovers... ever seen the cargo capacity of a Chrysler minivan?? Unreal, how all of the seats fold into the "basement" to give a HUGE cargo capacity! Try THAT in an EV, where the entire "bottom" is nothing but batteries!).

Now, high performance SUV's? YES, there is a market for those. And since they are truck-based, they can take the high torque and raw power of high performance drivetrains... and channel that power right out to the RWD. (No sissy FWD in real SUV's!)
And this is why many of us wanted a new mid-size RWD SUV (based on the Colorado/Canyon platform?), with V6 and V8 options ever since the REAL TrailBlazer was discontinued in 2009. Multiple overseas markets got one, but not North America, most likely because of that GM North America VP who always insisted there would be no new RWD vehicles on his watch.

Newsflash: Stellantis has had high performance SUVs on the market for years now. Both Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee have been available with capable V6 and MULTIPLE V8 HEMI engines, including both the 5.7L and the 392.
And to add insult to injury, even Ford saw the error of their ways when the mid-size Ford Explorer went to a CUV FWD vehicle... and after sales plummeted, they went BACK to RWD for the next(current) generation!
Here at GM? We continue to be stuck with only FWD CUV's in the mid-size market segment, and not a SINGLE good, reliable, powerful, RWD truck-based mid-size SUV.
