Removing the Soul from the Hyundai-Kia total nets 31,526 cumulative deliveries for an eight percent segment share, bumping the conglomerate to fifth place.

The mainstream subcompact crossover segment expanded eight percent to 356,305 units during Q4 2024, meaning the Chevy Trax outperformed the segment average.
It’s also worth noting that, of the 10 manufacturers represented here, three field multiple models in this space of 20 entries, though two of those models have been discontinued and are therefore destined to fall off this list. When combining sales volumes of those compared to automakers with a single entry, each ranks in the following order:
- GM – 27 percent share, four models
- Subaru – 14 percent share, one model
- Hyundai Motor Group
- 11 percent segment share, five models (including Kia Soul)
- 8 percent share, four models (not including Kia Soul)
- Honda – 10 percent share, one model
- Stellantis – nine percent share, four models (the Fiat 500X has been discontinued, but remaining inventory continues to be sold)
- Toyota – seven percent share, one model
- Nissan – seven percent share, one model
- Mazda – six percent share, one model
- VW – five percent share, one model
- Mitsubishi – one percent share, one model
Typically, automakers fielding multiple entries in this segment enjoy higher sales volumes and resulting segment shares. However, those with a single model, including Subaru and Honda, are also able to hold their own, actually outpacing automakers offering several models.
The GM Authority Take
Although the growth in Chevy Trax sales has slowed from its meteoric rise throughout 2024, the Bow Tie brand’s entry-level crossover remained at the top during Q4 2024. The model recorded an 84 percent increase during the 2024 calendar year.
We maintain that the incredible success of the all-new, second-generation Trax is the result of a compelling product that’s stylish, roomy, and affordable, and also one that can be fun to drive. What’s not to love?
Thanks to its continuing success, GM continues to enjoy a dominant position in the subcompact crossover space thanks to respectable sales of four models from both Chevy and Buick.

Comments
These are nice. I liked mine. I only had a couple of transient electronic glitches to mar the experience. However, I traded mine in on a 2025 Maverick XLT Luxury 2.0t AWD on February 1st. I missed having a truck, I wanted something affordable, garageable and useful, without the overkill of a midsize. Chevy refuses to sell the Montana here, which I think, with a few minor tweaks, (AWD option, more power) would sell well in the USA.
A true bonafide winner from GM; great looks (my eyes see alot of Camaro cues in the design. GM said the next Camaro has to be more affordable. Well, with some variations in this platform with more power, why not?)……. a nicely put-together GM interior. It looks much more substantial compared to the Trailblazer.
The only thing missing IMO is the accomomdation for All Wheel Drive and a bigger 4 cylinder to go with it. Had GM designed that into the Trax platform, they could have competed with the Subaru CrossTrek.
What with most things that Barra and her Suits have messed up in their time leading GM into a Black Hole, I sometimes wonder how in the world they’ve managed to build this attractive CUV, a well-built and outfitted vehicle at such a low price!
Agree with what you have to say, a great small vehicle that young families can afford, or just basic transportation for computers, without breaking the budget. BUT after the orange blob sticks his 25% tariff on these since they are made in Korea, sales will fall like a brick. GM gets a winner with these, and tRump is bound and determined to screw it up. I did read an article that said that manufacturers are getting vehicles like these on the ships as fast as they can to beat tRump’s tariffs.
Need more HP. I had a Bronco Sport with a 1.5, that was not enough. My lawn mower could have more power than these 1.2L
No pick up in this day and age to pull out in traffic.
Did you not test drive your Bronco before you bought it? I’m always amazed when people buy a car and then complain that’s it’s too small, isn’t powerful enough, etc. Cars don’t shrink after you drive them off the lot, nor do the engines get less powerful
Have you driven the 2nd generation Trax? We’ve had ours since January of 2024 and we do not feel it is lacking power at all. In fact, I have to be careful pulling out into traffic so I don’t squeal the tires. Our ’15 Cruze has a 1.4L turbo 4-cyl and the little 3-cyl in the Trax seems to have more power across the board even though it’s 3 inches taller and heavier than the Cruze.
Well, there’s yet another dummButt “lawn mower” post. Keep in mind, this non-owner horse’s derriere Thomas bought and drove off in a Bronco Sport and then discovered it was a pig. Oink oink.
Like Anonymous Person, I also have to be careful pulling out into traffic so I don’t squeal the tires.
Every online review I’ve read/watched had surprised reviewers comment on how responsive the power delivery is, obviously due to the torque, 6-speed transmission and mapping. Including the effete snob “influencers” who lamented the Trax lacked creature features and performance found in vehicles costing thousands more.
When I first got mine, I said to my dad and brother “it looks like a mini Camaro wagon”. They smirked (both of them are diehard bowtie fans) but I stand by my statement.
Fun. Cheap. Glitches. The Trifecta.
I have the 2024 Envista and it is a 100% win in my opinion. I don’t need to break the speed of sound and this works for me.
My feelings toward my 2024 Trax Activ match up with Roland’s: “it is a 100% win in my opinion. I don’t need to break the speed of sound and this works for me.”
I absolutely didn’t like mine. Electrical issues. Dec 1st made a yr that I had it. By January I took the hit and got out of it.
You probably got a lemon.
PPL who complain about the tiny 1200cc engine and whether it can do the job, look at reliability numbers… the Trailblazer and Encore GX are among the most reliable 3-year old vehicles on the market. These have to be well engineered, balanced vehicles to stand up to abusive American drivers on our high speed interstates, wide open country roads and pothole littered cities. I will continue to defend these even though I got out of mine. I was given $20k on a trade with 24k miles, and the dealer had it listed for $24,999. MSRP was $25,900. Shows strength of the product.
Cheap is what many have been reduced to in this economy.
After negotiating a deal on one of these do a hard negotiation on a bumper to bumper 100k warranty for as many years you will need and dump it at 99k
As if EVERY ONE of these are junk….
I highly doubt it, even if the naysayers will downvote me to oblivion…
