Chevrolet Performance Now Offers Corvette 6.2L V8 LT2 Engine Block

The C8 Corvette has a lot to offer, but for many, the star of the show has always been the mid-mounted naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 gasoline engine. With 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque on tap, the LT2 is certainly impressive, but unfortunately, Chevrolet Performance hasn’t offered the LT2 block to customers eager to build one from the ground up. At least, it didn’t until now.

As spotted by the folks at LSX Magazine, Chevrolet Performance has quietly added the LT2 block to its 2025 catalog. Tagged with part number 19436362, the new C8 Stingray block can be found on page 88, and interestingly, GM opted not to provide any official photos or issue a press release acknowledging the engine’s addition to the catalogue.

Nevertheless, builders are sure to be happy it’s there. Notably, the LT2 block is not interchangeable with other LT-series engines, such as the LT1 (used in the C7 Corvette and Camaro SS) or the L86 (found in GM trucks and SUVs), despite being part of GM’s Gen-V Small Block V8 family. Some of the key features include a unique engine mounting bolt pattern, a unique bellhousing bolt pattern to accommodate the C8 Corvette’s dual-clutch transmission, an integrated dry-sump oiling system with a built-in scavenge pump located in the valley above the camshaft, and high-strength A319-T7 aluminum alloy construction.

GM has yet to provide a price tag, but initial estimates suggest it will be under $3,000 once it becomes available through Chevrolet Performance dealers.

Previously, anyone looking to upgrade their C8 Corvette faced a series of issues, including the encrypted Global B electronic architecture (tuners eventually cracked it). Nevertheless, the aftermarket has worked through the issues to provide customers with a series of performance options. Now, with Chevrolet Performance offering the LT2 block as a standalone component, builders will have even more flexibility in creating high-performance setups specifically tailored for the mid-engine Corvette platform.
