The Concord City Council in Concord, North Carolina has approved a grant that will allow the Cadillac F1 team to build a facility for the production of power units.
The grant was approved for Motorsport IP Acquisition Co I LLC, which is associated with the Cadillac F1 effort. The proposed grant will provide $75 million to $85 million as an investment in personal property “to develop a site to support the development of the power unit (engine) for the Cadillac F1 vehicle,” as stated in city records. The site will create over 350 jobs in the Concord area as the Cadillac F1 team gains momentum with eyes on competition in 2026.
“This is a very important project for us,” said Concord mayor Bill Dusch. “We’re so proud to be a part of this.”
The facility’s address will be 4295 Defender Way, and it won’t be the only motorsports-affiliated entry on the site. Said land is already part of Hendrick Motorsports, which fields race cars in the NASCAR Cup Series and occasional Xfinity Series. For now, though, until the facility is built, Cadillac F1 power unit operations will commence at the GM Motorsports building at 4540 Fortune Way NW. This is near GM Defense’s production facility where the GM Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) is built, and close to the Hendrick dealerships and the facility that produces chromoly for NASCAR competition.
The Cadillac F1 team is looking to fill its positions with “highly skilled employees in manufacturing, engineering, and research and development.” Officials stated that the average annual salary for employees would be between $100,000 and $120,000. Building will begin in early 2025, and the facility itself is expected to open in 2027. Standout features will include pneumatic ports and a fiber-connected data center. Once built, the facility will include office space, advanced lighting, and backup power systems.
While power units will be built stateside, the Cadillac F1 team’s offices will be located in Silverstone, England. While the luxury marque is on track to use GM-built power units in 2028, it will begin competition with Ferrari power units under the hood.

Here’s to hoping some of those jobs are building street legal versions of the V-LMDh that I can buy 2 of in case I wreck one.
I think we all know GM will cancel this program either before it gets off the ground or soon after. It’s what GM always does and a Cadillac F1 literally makes no sense now that they’re an all-EV brand anyway.
Remember the real Blackwing? We waited for years. GM talked big, finally launches the 4.2 TT DOHC V8 only to cancel it within months.
If I were on the Concord City Council, I certainly wouldn’t vote to give GM any grants because I can promise them GM will not stick around.
“….Cadillac F1 literally makes no sense now that they’re an all-EV brand anyway.”
Exactly. GM is no longer a global automaker and Cadillac is certainly not a major global luxury brand (despite numerous prior attempts)…and never will be. Not to mention 99% of Cadillac buyers could not care less about motor sports.
This is more about Mark Reuss’s love of flying to races in one of the company’s G550’s because…well that’s just what he likes to do for his weekend enjoyment.
Does it make sense to spend $400-$500M/yr in F1 (which is what it takes to be competitive in F1) while they’re ruthlessly cutting long time employees that have given their working lives to the company? Apparently it does to this senior management team…and BOD.
GM should put there time, money, and effort into fixing their dealers. The only worse dealership experience i ever received was when I walked into a Harley Davidson dealers. I never even went back for my free oil change. Those Neanderthals couldn’t fix a sandwich.
…at least they could spell.
Wow!!! From the comments, and the 👍 replys—I see GM & Cadillac platform has a bad customer image that needs to be fixed…
They begin F1 with a Ferrari engine . So what’s Caddy about it? The delivery truck marker lights? … the Infotainment system? …..
You absolutely can’t make this stuff up .
and with no Andretti?
