Inventory of new Buick vehicles fell in December 2024, but still remained very high at a 120 days supply for the month, which is double the 60 days supply considered to be an optimum inventory level throughout the auto industry.
According to research from Cox Automotive, this figure is down from the 128 days supply of new Buick vehicles in November 2024, but is quite a bit higher than the elevated 106 days supply in December 2023 a year previously.
The Buick backlog remains high despite new car sales ending the year on an outstanding note. Absolute inventory numbers fell below three million vehicles in the USA for the first time since September 2024, dropping to 2.88 million vehicles on dealer lots. Notably, however, this inventory level is still 18.1 percent above the December 2023 level.
Buick inventory of 120 days supply is also elevated far above the auto industry average as a whole. The typical inventory of new vehicles in the United States for December 2024 was a 75 days supply, 14.2 percent lower than in November 2024 as sales climbed by 12.7 percent year-over-year.
Cox senior analyst Erin Keating said that “following the resolution of election uncertainties, interest rates began to decline and inventory levels reached their peak for the year,” leading to an “ideal blend of improved consumer sentiment, bigger discounts and evident optimism.”
Sales were strongest in certain categories. Luxury vehicles with a price over $80,000 saw their sales boom, a common trend for the end of the year, but arriving with exceptional strength in December 2024. Full-size pickups sold very well, though these are not found in the Buick lineup. However, Buick does have compact crossovers in its product line, another category that saw very good sales for December.
Overall, Keating noted, “new-vehicle sales roared at the end of the year, with a strong December finish” – which helped clear some of the Buick units off dealership lots, but left plenty of vehicles still awaiting buyers.

I will never consider buying Buick until it sells a sedan. Not everybody like SUV´s or crossovers or is willing to buy one no matter what.
Buick Lacrosse sales. Why would they continue to sell a vehicle that no one wants?
