2025 Chevy Trax: Here’s Everything That’s New And Different

The 2025 Chevy Trax represents the second model year of the subcompact crossover’s second generation, for which it’s getting a handful of minor changes and updates. Let’s take a look at everything that’s new and different about the 2025 Trax.

Model Cadence

The 2025 model follows the 2024 Trax, which introduced a second generation that was redesigned and reengineered.

Model Line

The model line doesn’t change compared to the 2024 model, with the same four trims carrying over into 2025, including:

  • LS
  • LT
  • RS (broken out into 1RS and 2RS)
  • Active

Exterior

The first changes involve exterior colors, with Chevy deleting four exterior colors while adding two new ones:

  • Cayenne Orange Metallic (GFQ)
  • Blue Glow Metallic (GGK)
  • Fountain Blue (GLN)
  • Harvest Bronze Metallic (GZF)

New colors:

  • Cypress Gray (GBD)
  • Marina Blue Metallic (GKN)

Interior

There are no changes to the interior, with the 2025 Trax continuing with the same five-passenger seating capacity in a 2-3 (front-rear) configuration.

However, there are two color availability changes. First, the Crimson Metallic exterior color (GFM) is no longer available with Jet Black interior color with Artemis accents. Second, the Cacti Green exterior color (GVR) is no longer available with red interior accents.

Two center infotainment displays remain on offer, including the 8-inch color touchscreen running Chevrolet Infotainment System 3, standard on LS and 1RS. Meanwhile, the 11-inch display is standard on the LT, 2RS and Activ trims.

Similarly, the LS and 1RS trims ship with a 3.5-inch display in the Driver Information Center (gauge cluster), which is bookended by two analog speedo and tach gauges, while the LT, 2RS and Activ feature a fully-digital 8-inch gauge cluster.

Mechanical

The final change to the 2025 Chevy Trax is the replacement of previously-available turbo 1.2L three-cylinder LIH engine with the same unit, but one that can run on E85. The new unit is tagged with RPO code LBP.

The 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque output carries over, as does the six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive.

The GM VSS-F vehicle set continues to provide the foundation; the architecture is shared most directly with the Buick Envista, while production takes place at the GM Changwon plant in South Korea. The plant is dedicated to the production of the second-gen Trax.

The updates and changes described here are specific to the U.S. market and may differ for other markets.

Where To From Here?

And that’s everything that’s new and different for the 2025 Chevy Trax. Looking ahead, we expect the current-generation model – which is extremely successful, finishing 2024 as the best-selling model in its competitive set – to remain in production at least thru the 2030 model year, with a mid-cycle refresh expected around the 2027 model year. 1. I just priced a 2025 Trax LS and compared to our 2024 Trax LS and the base price is still the same as it was in 2024. The “destination” charge went up by $300 for delivery to the dealership, but that’s probably due to higher transport costs. The new 1.2L LBP motor can run on E85, but I don’t see how that equates to lower quality.
So far, we’re very happy with our Trax.

    2. Yep, I’ve bought my last GM vehicle! My ’18 Sierra Denali HD and ’21 Trax ALL WHEEL DRIVE are the last GM vehicles we will ever own. I’m done with their stupidity.

  3. Am 70 years old . driving G.M. vehicles since 16. 2025 TRAX best car ever. Engineers got it right and listened to drivers. Super duper in deep snow. Very smooth ride. Console in easy reach and easy to understand without a manual. Super back up camera ,very bright makes paralell parking a breeze. Easily to see the curb to the right. Our family this year got two of them .Any happier would have to be TWO me+ us. No “BULLONEY”.

  4. Like my 2025 TRAX, quality is great! Would have bought an equinox, but unfortunately the quality coming out of Mexico is not good

    1. GM quality coming out of Mexico is the same as the one coming out of South Korea and Canada and the U.S. It’s not about the country of assembly, it’s more about – first and foremost the way in which the vehicle was developed and only after that, how quickly GM corporate can make changes to quality-related issues at the plant, if at all.

  5. It’s unfortunate that GM doesnt offer this with AWD. Without it, it’s just a compact car, really.

    Reply
    1. Correct, it’s an affordable compact car. That’s exactly the purpose of this generation, and it’s working extremely well.

If you want AWD, there’s always the Trailblazer. It also offers a few other features not offered on the Trax.

      1. It was already working well, what the hell was the purpose of making this into a front drive only? They fixed what wasn’t broken, again.

        1. Incorrect.

The last-gen Trax never achieved the number one spot in its segment for more than two months in a row, and that was when the segment only had a handful of models. The new second-gen model has been in first for the entire 2024 calendar year.

Also, the last-gen model never achieved the same level of sales volume as this new one. It moved about half the units of what the current one does.

It seems that what you’re looking for is a small Chevy crossover with AWD. If that’s the case, then look at the Trailblazer. It’s essentially the replacement for the first-gen Trax in all but name.

    2. I’ll never understand the stupidity of GM and I really can’t believe these are selling like they are. I guess stupid manufacturers attract stupid customers. To take an AWD vehicle and turn it into a FWD only is dumb, just dumb.

      1. You seem to be caught up by the name.

True, there’s no such thing as a second-gen Trax with AWD. The whole point of the product is to be low-cost and affordable throughout the entire funnel (from product development and supply all the way to manufacturing). AWD would run counter to that, so it’s not offered on the second-gen model.

You’re also not wrong in saying that the first-gen Trax was offered with AWD. So if you are looking for a subcompact Chevy crossover with AWD that’s still affordable, there’s always the Trailblazer. The Trax does not serve that purpose.

Put another way: the first-gen Trax was introduced at a time that the Trailblazer crossover was not offered. With the introduction of the Trailblazer (which offers AWD), there was no point in offering a Trax with AWD, since it would be the same vehicle as the Trailblazer, with a different body. So the decision was made to offer a low-cost model (Trax) and a higher-cost model (Trailblazer) with more features. Seems perfectly logical to me, and it’s clearly working.

  6. Helped a friend buy a new ’25 2RS a couple days ago with my employee/retiree discount.
I got to drive it the 33 miles distance to her home over some very rough roads, and some 4 lane 75 mph highways.
Now I’ve owned approximately 20 new GM vehicles, mostly Chevys, over the last 40 years.
This Trax is the smoothest riding, best driving, best assembled Chevy vehicle I’ve ever driven. Puts our ’24 Colorado to shame assembly wise, and you don’t know how bad it makes me feel to say that about that last part….

    1. Hmm, I honestly have zero issues with my 24 Colorado??? 12k and I love it.

  7. Please … bring back Blue Glow Metallic colour. I have but one other thing, sure would be great if at least just one USB port or 12 volt outlet for the backseat passengers be standard across all model trims. Seems the engine issues might be behind us. Good job GM.

    Reply
    1. The cargo hold is where I miss a 12 VDC outlet. As for the backseat passengers, I’m not sure I’d want to trust ’em with one.
Actually, Blue Glow Metallic being a 2024 only color makes the fully-loaded LT (like mine) quite the unique Trax, being well overshadowed by the Activ and 2RS sales volumes.
A real collectors item! OK. Maybe not…

  8. How are these even selling? GM, the leader in STUPID, bad decisions, does away with the AWD option on a model that was known for it’s…all wheel drive! Not even an option. A small AWD SUV now just another front wheel drive $hitbox. It’s crap like this that is why GM wouldn’t even still be around had it not been for a government bailout! This was one of THE DUMBEST bad decisions by GM even by GM standards of bad decisions! How that broad still has her CEO job is beyond me! My 2021 Trax AWD WILL be the last GM vehicle I ever buy. Brand loyalty is earned and GM certainly has NOT earned mine!

    1. The Traiblazer indirectly replaced the Trax so the Trailblazer is the new Trax and the Trax is its own model. I don’t know what is so hard to understand there. They did the same thing with the Encore and the Envista. The Envista indirectly replaces the Encore.

  10. They seem to have gotten all the bugs outta the Trax Family. I’ve been looking for a white LS with the package that gets you the heated seats an a few other features … no luck so far, it seems that GM is doing the same with the Trax that they did with the Silverado … only building the more expensive models … Hey GM $2,000,00 makes a difference, what I need sells for about $23K … all you see on the lots are $25K an higher … gonna make me buy a Hyundai. before it’s all over with.

  11. In the never ever ending world of SUV design boredom, I can’t tell it from an Equinox. (Insert yawning emoji here.). 🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱. Can’t we have a fun sedan back? Other companies do it, why can’t GM? Oh geez I forgot!!! GM has Mary WOKEster at the helm.. Is GM still buying back their stock to artificially inflate it’s value?

    Reply
  12. Rick, it was GM’s plan to replace the Cruze with the Trax. It was never intended to have AWD. Sometimes a vehicle has specific purposes and then you see what the buyer (market) likes. It sells, buyer approved….
