Which GM EVs Feature Apple CarPlay And Android Auto, And Which Ones Don’t

GM’s decision to move away from the popular Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity features has been controversial, to say the least. According to a study from last summer, about one-third of car buyers insist on these features, and a whopping 87 percent of our readers said it’s a dealbreaker not to have them. However, GM doubled down on its decision as recently as November, so we don’t expect it to be reversed any time soon.

The phase-out of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay appears to be exclusive to EVs for now. With that in mind, let’s take a look at which General Motors EVs on the market right now have these smartphone connectivity features and which ones don’t.

For the current 2025 model year, the only GM EVs with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are the Cadillac Lyriq, GMC Hummer EV, Chevy Silverado EV (but only the base WT trim), and the Chevy BrightDrop commercial van. Notably, it’s not available at all on the GMC Sierra EV since it has no work truck equivalent to the Chevy Silverado EV WT.

The Silverado EV WT and Chevy BrightDrop use the same infotainment system, which employs an 11.3-inch touchscreen, Google built-in compatibility with navigation, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Since this system is still around for 2025 and these features are so popular, it will be interesting to see whether GM will make it available in higher trims of the Silverado EV or even the Sierra EV.

Although the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV that were discontinued in 2023 had these features, the next-gen 2026 Chevy Bolt EV will not. However, it will come with many advantages over its predecessors, like updated motors and batteries and a heat pump, assuming The General sticks to its word that all future Ultium-based vehicles will have one.

As for Cadillac, the writing may be on the wall for the Lyriq’s Android Auto and Apple CarPlay availability. For the 2025 model year, the Cadillac EV lineup expanded to three models, adding the Optiq and Escalade IQ, neither of which have these features. The 2026 Cadillac Vistiq won’t, either. It’s likely a matter of time before there are no electric Cadillacs with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

The options are shrinking for GM EVs with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, so we recommend acting quickly if you want one with these handy features.

  1. The commercial vehicles do but the household ones don’t. Somebody PLEASE fire the bozo that thought eliminating it these features was a good idea. This is a classic example of what I mean GM makes head-scratching decisions that lack common sense.

    1. Oh and the one model that is outselling the rebadged counterpart, the Lyriq offers it. Take it away, and I can see the ZDX not needing to break a sweat just to catch up. I really hope, GM wises up. This may work for Tesla, who never offered it to begin with, but it won’t work for GM. Just more missed opportunities.

    2. It’s worse. GM essentially said they planned on monetizing the systems that do not have Car Play or Android Auto through paid features or apps. They anticipate billions of dollars in revenue.

      1. Well I said it wouldn’t have been a dealbreaker if they didn’t have the feature as I am living with a car that doesn’t have it but I will not condone the behavior of making you pay to use something I already paid for when purchasing the car. If its like Bill said below where a dealer is being sued for offering the conversion then yes, GM is looking to nickel and dime you. If by the time I am looking at an EV they don’t concede to the fact that others offer the system free of charge then I will look elsewhere from GM. Hyundai has nice options too and for the time being, they aren’t entertaining charging for it. Love my Caddy, but I’m not married to the brand if they are going to entertain this crap.

      2. The replacement of Google is like going back to AM radio . I have a 2024
Sierra EV. Every time you try to make a phone call it is off line. This just another way to charge a subscription fee. If i had know this i would have not bought the truck. I hope who ever made this decision gets fired one dumb SOB

  2. Seems like that dealer in Michigan that was offering the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade kit for GM’s electric vehicles took down that page. I wonder if GM threatened to sue? Seemingly, Google Automotive has all the code built in, but GM is disabling it, just because.

    1. Dumb comment. Not having this feature isn’t going to bankrupt GM (especially when Tesla doesn’t have it either). But it certain won’t help them if they want to regain market share and it only highlights GMs attitude of “just enough to get by” rather than strive for more.

They have a massive opportunity here to regain some market share also with the loss of Nissan and Mitsubishi through the merger with Honda (I don’t think that will play out well for Nissan and Infiniti. NVM Mitsu) and Stellantis negligent behavior towards their own American brands, but leave out popular features like CarPlay and AA.
