In terms of sales volume, Chevy took the top four spots among 23 total utility models, accounting for nearly half – 45 percent, to be exact – of all GM utility sales in Q4 2024.
The discontinued Buick Encore has dropped off the list this quarter, as it was indirectly replaced by the all-new Buick Envista subcompact crossover. Similarly, production of the Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV has come to an end, but the next-gen Chevy Bolt EV is on the way, scheduled to arrive in 2025 for the 2026 model year. Consequently, the Bolt family posted just 45 deliveries as remaining inventory is sold off.
The next-generation Chevy Equinox compact crossover regained the lead among The General’s utilities, as sales grew 10 percent to 64,207 units. The Chevy Trax subcompact crossover followed suit with a 15 percent bump to 50,927 deliveries. These two crossover models alone accounted for 28 percent, or over a quarter, of GM utility sales.
The new Chevy Traverse large, three-row crossover was next with a 60 percent jump to 35,983 units, while the just-refreshed Chevy Tahoe full-size SUV posted a 27 percent swell to 33,367 units. Rounding out the top five was the just-refreshed GMC Yukon full-size SUV family, which includes the regular-length Yukon and extended-length Yukon XL, with a 164 percent swell to 28,519 deliveries.
Body-On-Frame SUVs
GM sells six body-on-frame SUVs across its various divisions in the U.S.: the regular-length Chevy Tahoe and extended-length Chevy Suburban, the regular-length GMC Yukon and extended-length Yukon XL, plus the regular-length Cadillac Escalade and extended-length Escalade ESV. The luxury marque’s duo is joined by the first-ever all-electric, regular-length Cadillac Escalade IQ, which saw its first quarter of sales in Q4, plus the upcoming extended-length Escalade IQL, set to arrive in the first half of 2025. Technically, those two are not unibody or body-on-frame, but rather “body-on-battery” or “Ulti-body.”
Meanwhile, Buick only markets crossovers in North America, and does not offer body-on-frame SUVs.
(Sometimes, U.S. sales figures are not broken out for the Yukon and Yukon XL but are combined, as they are this quarter. The same is true for U.S. sales figures of the Escalade and Escalade ESV, which are also combined this quarter.)

(Sometimes, like this quarter, U.S. sales figures are not broken out for the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV but are combined.)

Comments
No reason to build sedans, coupes, or anything that is energy efficient low drag coefficient vehicles when for only a bit more capital you can sell vehicles for double the price.
With the Malibu begin discontinued, the only new sedans still built by the big 3 US automakers are from Cadillac. Buyers are forced to buy SUV’s, pickups, or crossovers if they want to say with an American nameplate.
All the #-s and GM still has the least amount of pending recalls ! GM must be doing something right !
