Some 2024 GMC Canyon Units Need Instrument Panel Software Reprogramming

GM has issued a Service Update for certain units of the 2024 GMC Canyon pickup truck that may have a condition in which the Virtual Cockpit Unit (VCU) software cannot be updated over the air.

The Service Update, number N242480580, specifies a fix for affected 2024 GMC Canyon trucks, which will be available until the end of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period for the individual pickup.

Dealers are instructed to identify affected units of the 2024 GMC Canyon using a list of VINs provided by General Motors and the Investigate Vehicle History screen accessed via the GM Global Warranty Management system. The fix must be applied to all affected Canyon trucks still in inventory and those brought in for service.

The fix involves dealers manually updating and reprogramming the VCU software via USB. It should take a little over an hour, and no new parts are required.

The number of units affected is currently unclear. However, since it applies explicitly to the 2024 model year, it’s possible that many trucks that have already been delivered to owners are affected, in addition to any still in inventory or transit. The condition doesn’t apply to the 2025 model year.

The 2024 Canyon, among other updates and changes, introduced the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition to the lineup, adding a highly off-road capable variant to the range in a similar way to the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison. Created in partnership with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), the AEV Edition features a 38.2-degree approach angle, a 26-degree departure angle, and a 26.9-degree breakover angle, combined with 12.2 inches of ground clearance.

All trims and variants of the 2024 Canyon run the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, developing 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque thanks to its High Output tune as the only available powerplant. The 2024 model year also saw the introduction of the TurboMax branding for the L3B engine.

The 2024 Canyon utilizes the second-gen GM eight-speed automatic transmission for cog swaps, while both 2WD and 4WD drivetrains are available.

The pickup continues to ride on an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform. Production of the Big Red mid-size truck took place exclusively at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.
