Some units of the 2024 GMC Canyon pickup truck are included in a new GM Customer Service Bulletin describing an issue that may prevent over-the-air (OTA) updates, as well as the fix that is now available for the issue.
The current programming of the affected 2024 GMC Canyon units’ Serial Data Gateway Module may be preventing OTA updates from installing, according to customer service bulletin number N242475020.
The remedy for this problem is offered free of charge to current 2024 GMC Canyon owners through December 31st, 2026. Once a Canyon that is brought to the dealership for any reason is verified as having the issue, dealer service personnel are instructed to apply the fix.
The fix for the Serial Data Gateway Module is carried out by reprogramming it with new software that has been provided by GM. The process requires no new parts and is finished in roughly half an hour. GM instructs dealerships to apply the reprogramming to any affected 2024 Canyon trucks still in inventory before selling them.
The 2024 Canyon, among other updates and changes, introduced the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition to the lineup, adding a highly off-road capable variant to the range in a similar way to the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison. Created in partnership with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), the AEV Edition features a 38.2-degree approach angle, a 26-degree departure angle, and a 26.9-degree breakover angle, combined with 12.2 inches of ground clearance.
All trims and variants of the 2024 Canyon run the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, developing 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque thanks to its High Output tune, as the only available powerplant. The 2024 model year also saw the introduction of  TurboMax branding for the L3B engine.
The 2024 Canyon utilizes the second-gen GM eight-speed automatic transmission for cog swaps, while both 2WD and 4WD drivetrains are available.
The pickup continues to ride on an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform. Production of the Big Red mid-size truck took place exclusively at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.
