GM has issued a Service Update for certain units of the 2024 Chevy Colorado pickup truck that may have a condition in which the Virtual Cockpit Unit (VCU) software cannot be updated over the air.
The Service Update, number N242480580, specifies a fix for affected 2024 Chevy Colorado trucks, which will be available until the end of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period for the individual pickup.
Dealers are instructed to identify affected units of the 2024 Chevy Colorado using a list of VINs provided by General Motors and the Investigate Vehicle History screen accessed via the GM Global Warranty Management system. The fix must be applied to all affected Colorado trucks still in inventory and those brought in for service.
The fix involves dealers manually updating and reprogramming the VCU software via USB. It should take a little over an hour, and no new parts are required.
The number of units affected is currently unclear. However, since it applies explicitly to the 2024 model year, it’s possible that many trucks that have already been delivered to owners are affected, in addition to any still in inventory or transit. The condition doesn’t apply to the 2025 model year.
Several changes were introduced to the Colorado for the 2024 model year. Among these was the GM Authority-predicted removal of the Desert Boss Special Edition (RPO code ZDB) and its replacement by the all-new Colorado ZR2 Bison Edition (RPO code ULV) package, which collects numerous trail-ready components, including heavy-duty bumpers and skid plates.
As a reminder, two different powerplants are available to power the 2024 Chevy Colorado: the Turbo 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine, which develops 237 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, and the Turbo High-Output 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, which is rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The mid-range Turbo Plus 2.7 I4 L3B gasoline engine was retired from the powerplant lineup for the 2024 model year.
Meanwhile, the Chevy Colorado makes us of an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform for structure under the body panels, while production of the pickup model takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.
