JR Motorsports (JRM), the Xfinity Series team owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr., will borrow Trackhouse Racing’s Cup Series drivers Ross Chastain and Shane Van Gisbergen on a part-time basis in 2025. The two accomplished racers will share the No. 9 NASCAR Chevy, with Chastain featured in five events and Van Gisbergen taking the wheel for the other four.
Chastain is on the schedule for Circuit of the Americas on March 1st, Darlington on April 5th, Nashville on May 31st, Dover on July 19th, and Iowa on August 2nd. Van Gisbergen will take control of the No. 9 NASCAR Chevy at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez for the Xfinity Series’ maiden race in Mexico on June 14th, the Chicago street race on July 5th, Sonoma on July 12th, and Watkins Glen on August 9th.
“I think there is a lot of benefit to getting seat time on Saturdays in the Xfinity Series,” Chastain, five-time Cup Series race winner, said in a statement. “Getting an opportunity to do it with JR Motorsports is too good an opportunity to pass up. I know every time I climb in their Chevrolets, we will have a chance to win.”
Van Gisbergen, meanwhile, has proved his mettle on road courses in his burgeoning NASCAR career. Three-time Australian Supercars champion, Van Gisbergen won his first ever Cup Series race on the Chicago streets in 2023 before transitioning to a fulltime Xfinity Series career in 2024. He will be a rookie in the Cup Series fulltime in 2025.
“I’m trying to get as much experience as I can,” Van Gisbergen said. “JR Motorsports is one of the top teams and won the championship with Justin Allgaier. I can’t wait to get started.”
When the NASCAR Chevy Cup Series entries hit the track in 2025, they will retain their Camaro body style, but no longer feature the “Camaro” script on the rear fascia. The Bow Tie Brand has been represented by the Camaro SS in the Xfinity Series, but it’s not clear if these race cars will continue to sport “Camaro” branding, or if it will be removed.
