Ram Pickup And Chevy Impala Show How To Load A Stalled Car On A Trailer: Video

As they say, it isn’t stupid if it works. Indeed, fixing cars often requires innovative solutions, sometimes even before you lift the hood. Such is the case with this Chevy Impala, which gets loaded up on a trailer with a clever, albeit unorthodox technique.

The video is only a few seconds long, and looks as though it was captured in a storage facility or industrial park. We see a Ram pickup with a large car trailer behind it, as well as a long orange strap attached to the pickup’s bumper. At the other end of the strap is a Chevy Impala.

It looks as though the Chevy Impala is inoperable, which means it can’t be driven up onto the trailer. The most obvious solution would be to use a winch to pull the Impala up onto the trailer. However, with no winch apparently available, these folks have a different solution in mind.

A Chevy Impala is loaded onto a trailer.

As the video gets underway, we see the Ram pickup accelerate forward, pulling the Chevy Impala by the orange strap behind it. The loading ramps are left down, and it quickly becomes clear what these folks are attempting.

After driving forward, the driver in the Impala gives the thumbs up signal out an open window. Shortly thereafter, the pickup abruptly stops, causing the Impala to continue its momentum up onto the trailer. The Impala driver hits the brakes at just the right moment to stop the stalled sedan from flying into the back of the pickup.

The maneuver results in an outburst of laughter from onlookers. Indeed, it’s a risky move, but the two drivers manage to pull it off brilliantly.

Obviously, we can’t suggest that anyone else tries this move, as it could very easily go sideways. By the look of it though, we’d guess this isn’t the first time that this pair has loaded a car trailer like this.

  3. Impressive teamwork but just dumb, in the risk/reward calculation. I’ve loaded cars with just the strap before but never moving the truck, was a pain, but possible. With their method, 1 wrong bump and a ramp comes off, you scar the ground the whole way you’re dragging the ramps or the car driver doesn’t hit the brakes perfectly, you’re screwed.

I know it’s a pain and expensive to set up a winch but even before I did mine I got the $40 hand winch from harbor freight. took longer but I never questioned my sanity or safety using it like I hope these guys are. And you know they passed a harbor freight or similar on their way here with this plan. I’d put money on it’s a buddies trailer too.

  6. I have been there, but I jacked the back of the truck slightly off the ground and put the strap around the ride and as I gave it gas winched the car up strapped it down and gone. Whatever works is my mato.

  7. Just don’t try this with a trailer with ramp stands, my luck would be the terrain would cause the stands to drag enough to lift the ramps up and hit the front of the car.
