Production Of All-New 2025 Chevy Optra Sedan Starts In Egypt

Almost three months after the official unveiling of the all-new 2025 Chevy Optra in Egypt, General Motors has just announced the production start of the Chevrolet sedan in the African country.

GM Egypt Plant Celebration Event announcing the production start of the 2025 Chevy Optra.

The automaker’s subsidiary in Egypt held a year-end event to celebrate 2024 business achievements and announce that it has started production of the all-new 2025 Chevy Optra at the GM 6th of October City plant in that country. The inaugural event with local employees was attended by the entire regional leadership structure, including Sharon Nishi, Chair and Managing Director of GM Egypt and North Africa and the top official of GM Africa and Middle East.

“Wrapping up the 2024 year, GM Egypt held its final ‘All People Meeting’ event of the year, which brought together all employees to reflect on the business’s accomplishments and outline key goals for the upcoming year,” said GM in a statement. “Jack Uppal, President and Managing Director of GM Africa and Middle East, visited Egypt and the plant tour visit to commemorating the all-new Chevy Optra off the production line,” the company added.

Notably, the first all-new 2025 Chevy Optra sedan to roll off the production lines at GM Egypt’s 6th of October complex is a red unit in the top-of-the-line Premier trim level. It is the result of an assembly plan with project code 310C that will resume passenger vehicle production at GM’s African subsidiary, halted following the end of local assembly of the previous Chevy Optra in 2023.

As we pointed out in our previous report, the new 2025 Chevy Optra sedan assembled in Egypt is exactly the same subcompact vehicle that was first introduced in Mexico as the Chevy Aveo and is also marketed in some South American countries as the new Chevy Sail. The vehicle was designed and developed by the automaker’s SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture in China, which supplies the CKD material to the Egyptian plant.

The all-new 2025 Chevy Optra sedan is already rolling off the production line at GM Egypt’s plant and will begin sales in the domestic market of that country in the coming weeks, as the company’s first vehicle introduction in the new calendar year. The new Optra is expected to be launched in the same timeframe and will also begin exporting to other North African countries in the coming months to strengthen the brand’s positioning.

  1. It’s almost like sales of affordable cars are banned in North America and legal Everywhere else in the World

  2. Nobody banned cars, but the market has spoken in North America. People like the higher hip point of SUV’s and CUV’s. Even the small ones. The cache of sport cars and ‘longer, lower, wider’ has given way to the practicality of utility vehicles (and the newer cache of Escalades and Land Rovers). The rest of the world is slowly coming to the same conclusion. My bet is that in ten years, the Egyptians will be in CUV’s, too.

    1. You obviously have never driven on a B road in the UK or at speed on the Autobahn. There is a reason why the Ford Fiesta has been the best selling used car in the UK and why station wagons are immensely popular on the Continent.

  3. That would be an excellent alternative competitor to the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, and Nissan Sentra. An opportunity lost for GM.

  4. I would buy this car instead of a boring unpractical SUV or crossover. Not everybody like SUV´s and crossovers or is willing to buy one no matter what.
