NY Honda Dealer Raffles Low-Mile 2000 Chevy Camaro For Charity

A nearly pristine 2000 Chevy Camaro with under 30,000 miles on its odometer was raffled off to benefit foster kids in a charity raffle that ended on January 8th, 2024, with more than $35,000 already raised.

The Foster Kids’ Christmas raffle, organized by Pastor Charlie and The Cure Foundation, sold tickets to win the mint Chevy Camaro for $50 each or three for $100 in collaboration with Mohawk Honda of Schenectady, New York.

Speaking about the origin of the raffle, Greg Johnson, general manager of Mohawk Honda, said that “we love Paster Charlie – he called us a couple of months ago and said, ‘I have an idea I want to run by you.'” Johnson added that “without any hesitation, we’re like, ‘we definitely want to be involved, let us know what we can do.'”

There are very few details about the specific 2000 Chevy Camaro being raffled off, other than its total lifetime driving distance of 29,752 miles and the images you can see in this post. However, it appears the Arctic White coupe is powered by the naturally aspirated 3.8L V6 L36 engine that develops 200 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque, paired as standard with a five-speed manual transmission or optionally with a four-speed automatic.

GM sales literature about the 2000 Chevy Camaro stresses its rust and corrosion resistance, claims that appear accurate in this case given the superb condition of the vehicle being raffled off. Other standard features for the Camaro Coupe are listed as driver and front passenger air bags, a tilt-adjustable steering column, “theater lighting,” theft deterrent systems, and Solar-Ray tinted glass.

Mohawk Honda doesn’t give much indication of the history of the Camaro that was raffled, but chances seem high it is a single-owner vehicle, with that owner likely a retiree.

General Manager Greg Johnson added, in reference to the money going to The Cure Foundation, “this is such a great cause and fits perfectly with what Mohawk Honda does on a regular basis in the community.”

  1. I know the catfish front end gets “trashed” on, but I think it has aged well, and you can’t deny the sheer raw power the LS 350 motors made back then. That stock 5.7L completely embarrassed any stock 5.0L and/or 4.6L Mustang. It amazes me how people back then didn’t realize this, because I grew up in this era, and man Mustang fanboys were so annoying thinking there muscle cars were so fast. Did it come down to marketing maybe?? I can’t tell you the last time I have seen or did see a Camaro commercial.

  2. gM’s cavalier attitude towards the Camaro is legendary and here we are in 2025 without this car for a second time. Its surprising to see so few well kept low miles examples like this around as apparently most were flogged and abused. Hopefully the new owner preserves this one

  3. I drove a 1996 and a 2000 B4C police package Camaro for work. At the time these cars were as fast as anything out there. Needless to say nobody I went after got away

  4. Interesting that a Honda dealer had it to donate.

  5. Hope the fix that “service engine soon” warning before the auction.
The Honda dealer probably lowballed some poor sucker on a trade and now they look like the good guy.

  6. I have an original owner 94, not my daily driver (anymore). I remember when I first got it, there were 4th gen camaros everywhere especially around the 96-97 time frame. Now you’re lucky to see one. Chevy really did a job killing the name.
