GM’s Wuling Starlight S To Join Chevrolet Crossover Lineup In Latin America

GM Authority has exclusively learned that General Motors’ all-new Chinese-market Wuling Starlight S will join Chevrolet’s crossover lineup in Latin America.

The automaker will continue to expand Chevrolet’s lineup for emerging markets with several new-generation vehicles developed by China’s SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture, owner of the Wuling and Baojun brands with broad portfolios of electrified vehicles. In addition to the Baojun Yep Plus as the upcoming Chevy Spark EUV, GM will be slapping Bow Tie brand logos on the Wuling Starlight S for Latin American countries.

Several sources familiar with the matter tell us that GM is testing pre-production units of the all-new Wuling Starlight S in Brazil and other Latin American countries, where it’s expected to be added to Chevrolet’s vehicle lineup as the brand’s next affordable electrified utility vehicle. The current Starlight S test fleet in the region is comprised of the all-electric model, but GM is also considering the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant.

As such, the Wuling Starlight S will follow SGMW’s Chevrolet-badged rebranded product strategy initiated five years ago in Latin America with the current Baojun 530-based Chevy Captiva. Since then, GM’s Chinese joint venture has strengthened its role as a supplier of Chevy models to emerging markets with highly popular vehicles like the Chevy Groove, as well as the new Chevy Aveo and Chevy Sail (also known as the Chevy Optra in Egypt).

First unveiled as the Wuling Xing Chen Plus in early 2024, the all-new Wuling Starlight S is an all-new electrified compact crossover developed from the ground up on the D platform of SGMW’s new modular Tianyu EV architecture. Its body measures 185.2 inches long, 73.6 inches wide, and 65.7 inches tall while riding on a 110.2-inch wheelbase that gives it a very spacious interior for its class.

The Chevrolet version of the all-new Wuling Starlight S is expected to be revealed during the new calendar year as one of the brand’s most competitive electric crossovers in Latin America, most likely making its official debut in Brazil as part of Chevy’s 100th anniversary in that country. At the moment, it’s unclear what the name of the Bow Tie brand’s next model will be, but it could adopt the Captiva nameplate.

  1. Latin America will get beautiful new interior colors and if the US even gets this vehicle it’ll be with disgusting black interior. Yuck.
