GMC sells significantly more Sierras than Canyons, with the midsizer accounting for about 11 percent of Big Red’s truck deliveries. However, the Sierra full-size truck line offers a wider spectrum of price points, cabs and bed configurations, capacities and capabilities, including light-duty and heavy-duty models, plus an all-electric offering.
Expectedly, sales of GMC trucks with 362,949 deliveries in 2024 paled in comparison to those of crosstown rival Ford, which posted 942,996 combined units of the full-size Ford F-Series – which includes the light duty F-150 and heavy duty Super Duty – the Ford Maverick compact pickup, the Ford Ranger midsize truck, and battery electric Ford F-150 Lightning light duty full-sizer. Notably, GM has no answer for the Maverick compact model.

Overall, GM trucks cumulatively commanded a 35 percent segment share, accounting for over a third of all deliveries in this large and profitable space. Chevy accounted for 23 percent of GM’s 35 percent and GMC represented 12 percent. Ford took second at a close 33 percent, exactly a third of the market, followed by Ram at 14 percent. Toyota represented 12 percent of the market. Notably Toyota sells more examples of the Toyota Tacoma than the Toyota Tundra – the only automaker that sells more midsize trucks than full-size ones.

The pickup truck space expanded 2.6 percent to 2.9 million units during the 2024 calendar year, meaning that the 14 percent growth rate in GMC truck sales outperformed the segment average.
The GM Authority Take
Sales of the GMC Sierra line incresed a healthy nine percent during the 2024 calendar year, while those of the Canyon grew a whopping 70 percent year-over-year as availability of the all-new, third-generation model – which launched for the 2023 model year – got resolved. Additionally, the Sierra EV – which went on sale toward during the tail end of the year – is finding its way in the marketplace, with growth expected from more trim levels of the all-electric truck.
Better yet, overall sales of the Professional Grade brand’s trucks outperformed the segment average by nearly a dozen points. The premium marque offers a compelling, refreshed, and expanded lineup, with variants and capabilities to meet nearly every need and want in the market.
The biggest news is that combined sales of all GM trucks surpassed one million units, outperforming key rivals in terms of both volume and growth rate. The General and GMC begin the new year in a very strong position, boasting a solid truck line, the production capacity to build units, and a dealer network available to move them.

Ah It feels like I am back at Elementary School. Watching ReBoot on ABC, and Beakman’s World on CBS. Way back in years 1989 to 1996. Looking at these newly released GMC sales numbers.
And gm still thinks they don’t need a Maverick competitor? Friend of mine very close to retirement, lifetime Chevy guy, wanted a truck just to go fishing & run errands. Finally bought the Maverick as it in base form was well under the price of a Colorado WT or base Canyon which no local dealers even bother to stock. Not everyone wants or needs a $40K or more pickup.
They have the Chevrolet Montana in Mexico. People who cannot get a Colorado due to not having the money can get those…
Sales might be up but parts for these vehicles are not being produced. I’m waiting for parts for a 2022 Sierra, it’s been 7 months, with no date for production or shipment, and no help from GM. 2022 and 30000 miles and I can’t get parts!
Risks with any modern vehicle.
